EBB Owners Club e-Bike ride - Western Suburbs Explorer Plus!

Electric Bikes Brisbane Owners Club ride - Mt Cootha ForestOur April EBB Owners Club ride was the aptly named ‘Western Suburbs Explorer’. A beautiful Brisbane morning put us all in the mood for a fun ride and we couldn’t resist adding some ‘adventure’ to the agenda with the very capable Adventure ebikes that our group had.

'Explorer' = A surprise visit to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

EBB Owners Club - ebike ride ends up at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

We set out through St Lucia and headed over the hills to Indooroopilly being rewarded with some great views of the river and the city. Too much talking vs navigating saw us ‘explore’ Fig Tree Pocket with a quick stop at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. (We were tempted to cuddle a koala but the morning was just too good to stop LOL.)

Then we headed across to Kenmore and made our way up the very hilly Bielby Road at the back of Chapel Hill where the temptation of having great bikes and beautiful natural trails in the forest was too much. Into Mount Coottha State Forest we went, down the Bellbird Trail to Gap Creek Reserve.

EBB Owners Club - Adventure ebikes on an adventure

This is where special mention goes out to Dianne and Peter who, despite no experience mountain biking, both said ‘yes let’s try it’ to the suggestion we climb up one of the singletrack trails. Way to go guys – true adventurers at heart.

Remember, we are on ebikes that are set up as trekking bikes – panniers and all – and oh my goodness the bikes (and riders) were so impressive. We got to the top of the Skink Link trail with a few whoops and swear words on the way but the grins plastered on everyone’s faces at the top was delightful.

We opted to stay on dirt to climb out of the park to the top of Mount Coottha 'the short way' and tackled the difficult Highwood Road Trail. This is very steep and loose for much of the climb. Experienced riders on full blown mountain bikes find this a tough climb so, once again, a big shout out and a 'well done' to all our riders for their efforts, especially given that the temperature had hit the mid-thirties by this stage.

After the grunt of the hard climb we all whooped it down to the bottom of Mt Coottha on the road, landing us back at Electric Bikes Brisbane at about 12pm.

A big thank you to Dianne, Peter, Stephen, Ed, Andrew and Nick for making it such a fun morning. (And I promise not to ‘take the shortcut’ next time.)

Save the date for the next EBB Owners Club ride - 10 June

Our next ride is on 10th June, through the beautiful Kedron Brook Bikeway, Boondall Wetlands and Nudgee Beach.

The e-bikes that our riders had, and which helped made it such good fun, are:

Nick, Andrew and Sam were riding the AVE SH11 Adventure bikes

Stephen and Peter each had a Haibike Trekking.

Dianne was riding the Riese and Muller Charger.

And Ed was riding the Corratec E-Power XVert 29er
