An e-Mountain Bike Designed for All-Day Trail Performance

The Instinct Powerplay is a new addition to Rocky Mountain's much lauded Powerplay electric mountain bike range. The Instinct eMTB's are aimed primarily at the all-day trail rider and tourer looking for some adventure. 

Rocky Mountain designed their own drive system, the Dyname 3.0, so they could retain the geometry and great handling characteristics of their non-motorized models rather than having to design a frame around an off-the-shelf drive system. According to the MTB press, they nailed it!

The riding position on the Instinct models is pleasantly central and upright rather than aggressively sporty and it is a great climber and descender. Intuitive, agile and nimble it also still feels controlled at high speeds. If its not quite the right fit off the shelf you also have the bonus of the Rocky Mountain RIDE-9 adjustment system which allows riders to quickly fine tune their geometry and suspension.

The Rocky Mountain Instinct Powerplay Alloy 30 model comes well equipped with the hard-wearing Shimano Deore 11-speed gearing and a 150mm/ 140mm dual suspension combo with RockShox Gold 35 Gold RL forks and a RockShox Deluxe Select+ rear shock. A Rocky Mountain dropper seatpost completes the package. The 29er wheels are fast rolling and smooth and, combined with the ultra powerful and responsive motor, will let you climb anywhere you want. With a bespoke motor Rocky Mountain are able to design their e-mountain bikes to reflect the ride quality of their highly evolved non-motorized bikes. The Dyname 3.0 drive system is different from other motors in many ways and the ride is sensational. 

First up you have to mention the torque. 108Nm! The most powerful climbing motor on offer on Australia. It's not just a headline number though. The motor offers instant pickup and responsiveness thanks to its inline torque sensor and it climbs like a mountain goat, especially in Ludicrous mode.  Thanks to the higher capacity 672Wh battery you can climb higher and faster than on any other ebike with single battery and, but for the sound of the chain feeding through the guides, its quietness and seamless integration make it hard to distinguish as an ebike.

An iWoc Trio handlebar mounted remote controls the motor with just three buttons and all information can be accessed through an app on your phone. Riders can select from three assist levels plus a walk assist mode.
