The Focus Sam2 eMTB is the long-travel brother of the Focus Jam2. Launched under the slogan "rediscover enduro" this is your bike park and big air downhill eMTB...or a supremely comfortable and capable bike for the local trails.
A winner of the 2018 Design and Innovation Awards, it has a massive 170mm travel upfront and this ebike is aimed at ... anyone ... who loves mountain biking. No obstacle is too great. No shuttles, gondolas or pushing to go uphill required. Coming downhill is as good as any bike - electric or otherwise. It is powered by the highly acclaimed Shimano E8000 mountain bike motor featuring Focus' own fully integrated tube battery design and also offers dual battery capability for those wanting to do longer rides. Designed to maximise your experience and available in three versions.
With 170mm travel up front E-Mountainbike Magazine explains it perfectly...
"Get on, press the button and off you go. Thanks to the Shimano STEPS E8000 motor and a 75° seat tube angle riding uphill is a pleasure. On long tours over forest roads or on steep trails, you will feel the efficient seating position with every pedal stroke. Even on technical climbs the SAM² faithfully stays on track, providing plenty of traction over rocks and roots.
Arriving at the trailhead, the SAM² reveals more of its positive characteristics. Meandering down the trail with loads of control and a big smile on your face. Whether ploughing through berms at top speed or switching back and forth down the side of a mountain. Through rough sections, the wheels remain on the ground and in control thanks to the 170 mm of travel provided by the F.O.L.D linkage (Focus Optimized Linkage Design) and 65 degree head angle. The suspension responds sensitively but also gives the necessary feedback on hard hits to follow the flow of the trail. The potent tires round off an overall harmonious riding experience."
That's what Enduro is all about.
As with Focus Jam2 the Sam2 is powered by the Shimano Steps E8000 drive system which is beautifully integrated into the hydroformed aluminium frame. The Sam2 is deliberately designed to carry a smaller battery to reduce weight. Focus estimates that the smaller battery will provide 2-3 hours riding.
Unique to the Focus Jam2 and Sam2 though is the option to carry an additional 378 Wh battery, to provide a huge total battery capacity of 756 Wh. The Shimano E8000 motor is very compact and offers a shorter chainstay for more clearance and better handling and puts out a maximum output of 70Nm (250W) which really takes the sting out of big climbs. It's new e-MTB LCD display and control switch offers four modes of power – eco, tour, sport and turbo – and a Power Walk mode to provide motor assist if required while pushing the bike.
