The Orbea Gain Alloy road e bikes offer a lightweight affordable alternative to the carbon models. The Orbea Gain D31 model comes with Shimano SLX 11-speed gearing which, with the assistance of the motor, means you can tackle some of the steeper terrain around on your rides. At just 13kg the motor provides heaps of extra oomph when you need it. The D31 comes fitted with wider 40C Kenda tires making it suitable for rougher roads and more adventurous riding.
The Orbea Gain D31 comes equipped with some great gear for those looking for an affordable road ebike with enough performance for steeper riding. Shimano SLX gearing with an 11-42t cassette provides an excellent and hard wearing range of 11 gears and Shimano Shimano RX400 hydraulic disc brakes will provide heaps of confidence on descents.
The Orbea Gain D31 comes with carbon forks. This, combined with the 40C wide Kenda tyres makes this a more comfortable ride for longer periods in the saddle, especially on rougher roads.
In Orbea's words we are at the doorstep of a new era in bicycles. Their pioneering in this field with the Gain road electric bicycle earned them a Design & Innovation Award this year.
The award panellists congratulated Orbea's engineers for creating a simple but well-functioning electric road bike that will change the lives of many cyclists, allowing them to discover their two-wheeled freedom." They also highlighted the "very high level" of performance of "both the software and hardware of the powerful 250 Ebikemotion X35 motor" and its "stylishly integrated battery and rear hub motor".
Orbea developed its X35 electric drive system in partnership with eBikemotion to create a smooth and subtle power delivery - the "Enough Power" concept - and a system that is sophisticated yet simple and intuitive to operate. The control centre for the bike is a simple discreet button on the top tube that allows you to turn on and off, change power levels and check battery. If you want more information - distance, GPS route and more, simply download the Smartphone app.
The X35 eSystem features a 250W discreet and compact rear hub motor that is drag free when off. A sophisticated sensor system monitors your pedalling effort and adjusts power accordingly. The battery, which has been upgraded in the 2020 models to include Ant+ technology, is internal to the frame, and there is an option of mounting a second battery to extend your range with a bottle cage mounted booster.
