Orbea first launched their Gain e bikes last year to great response. For the 2019 season they have introduced a new Carbon model, and in the process have claimed the title of world's lightest electric bike taking a further 2kg of weight out with its carbon componentry.
The Orbea Gain M10 comes equipped with the some excellent kit too, as you would expect of a bike of this calibre. The Shimano Dura Ace groupset is lightweight and offers fast, reliable shifting. With its compact double crankset you are set for some serious climbing. Orbea have paired this with the Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, perfect for fast descending.
The 45mm deep dish carbon rims on the Mavic Cosmic Carbon Pro wheels are super fast rollers and ultra light weight at the same time (only 1650 grams for the set!) and they come out of the box with Mavic Yksion 28c tarmac road tyres. If your preference is for wider tyres these can be mounted with up to 40C tyres, tubeless or clincher. FSA K-Force compact handlebars and a matching FSA Carbon stem finish off the Orbea Gain M10 nicely.
In Orbea's words we are at the doorstep of a new era in bicycles. Their pioneering in this field with the Gain road electric bicycle earned them a Design & Innovation Award this year.
The award panellists congratulated Orbea's engineers for creating a simple but well-functioning electric road bike that will change the lives of many cyclists, allowing them to discover their two-wheeled freedom." They also highlighted the "very high level" of performance of "both the software and hardware of the powerful 250 Ebikemotion X35 motor" and its "stylishly integrated battery and rear hub motor".
Orbea developed its X35 electric drive system in partnership with eBikemotion to create a smooth and subtle power delivery - the "Enough Power" concept - and a system that is sophisticated yet simple and intuitive to operate. The control centre for the bike is a simple discreet button on the top tube that allows you to turn on and off, change power levels and check battery. If you want more information - distance, GPS route and more, simply download the Smartphone app.
The X35 eSystem features a 250W discreet and compact rear hub motor that is drag free when off. A sophisticated sensor system monitors your pedalling effort and adjusts power accordingly. The battery is internal to the frame, and there is an option of mounting a second battery to extend your range with a bottle cage mounted booster.
All the Gain Carbon models benefit from Orbea’s free built-to-order MyO platform. This offers the option to choose from a range of different components and colour schemes.
