eMTB Trails Close to Brisbane

Looking for places to ride your eMTB? There is a diverse range of mountain biking on offer close to Brisbane, or just a couple of hours or less drive. Whether you're looking for rooty tech, fast and flowy or booters that you can send, you can get it all without going too far from Brisbane.

Here are some of our favourite mountain bike parks.

1. Gap Creek Reserve (The Gap, ~16km west from Brisbane CBD)

  • This is one of the most accessible trail networks for mountain-bike riders in Brisbane, located just minutes from the city.

  • It offers a wide range of trail types and difficulty levels – from more family-friendly loops on the Mount Coot-tha side to technical and gravity-fuelled lines on the Highwood Road side. There is also a small skills area if you want to practice cornering, skinnies and rolls.

  • For the easier loops there is parking at the Gap Creek Picnic Area / trailhead via Gap Creek Road (Kenmore Hills / Mt Coot-tha).  There is also acar park at the end of Highwood Road, for easy access to the black trails such as Pipeline.

2. Ironbark Gully / Bunyaville (Ferny Hills/ Albany Creek, ~17km north of Brisbane CBD

  • These are two separate trail networks but noted together as you can ride from one to the other if you want to expand your riding.

  • Ironbark Gully is in Samford Conservation Park and has a network of approx 20km of single track. Linked by fire roads if you want to keep things easier, the trails that run downhill can be steep, fast and quite technical. If you want to hone your skills drop into the skills area at the bottom of Kombi.

  • Bunyaville has approx 20km of single track too and is more family friendly, thanks to the well maintained gravel roads that interconnect the trails and the Jinker Track bike path. Experienced riders can have a great ride there too though. The single track trails have it all - roots, rocks, creek beds, jumps and berms.

3. Daisy Hill Conservation Park (Logan City, ~30 km south of Brisbane CBD)

  • This park offers a network of mountain-bike trails suitable for a wide range of skill levels, from beginner through to intermediate.

  • Linked by fire roads (which are a great ride if you prefer something tamer), there are well-maintained trails with a little bit of everything. Rock gardens, roots, berms and also some seriously fast and flowy moderate downhill trails. Great fun for beginners and experienced riders love them too. If you like your jumps and drops there are trails that offer that too.

  • If driving there the main vehicle access is via the end of Daisy Hill Road. Additional access is available via Underwood Road (via Underwood Park) and from the northern end at Ford Road for riders coming from the Redlands side.

4. Hidden Vale Adventure Park (Grandchester, QLD, about an hour's drive from Brisbane)

  • This is a large, privately-run mountain biking park, and possibly the largest network in Queensland with a network of 100km+ single track. A great place to head to if you are looking for a full day's riding!

  • There are a variety of trails, catering to all levels, from easier green/blue loops to long technical descents and rock/roots features.

  • To drive there, head to Spicer's Resort as the parking to access the trails is located there.Once you turn off the main road into the Spicer's entrance follow the signage to the trail-head and parking area.

  • TIP: As this is a managed trail park, check for day-pass requirements, trail maps, opening hours and any bookings needed.

5. Jubilee Park Trail System (Mt Lofty / Toowoomba Region, QLD, about 1.5hrs from Brisbane)

  • The first legal mountain bike park in Queensland with approx 30km of single track and a great variety of well marked and well maintained trails.

  • It offers single-track mountain biking for a range of abilities and preferred styles. For more advanced riders, there are trails with significant elevation gain and technical features like large rocks and drops and cross-country riders can also enjoy a fun loop at the base of the park.

  • The trailhead is within Jubilee Park / Mount Lofty area. Riders should follow the local signage for the mountain bike access area.

6. Sunshine Coast Region Mountain Bike Networks (Sunshine Coast, QLD, approx 1-1.5hrs from Brisbane)

  • The region has heaps of trails, although the trail areas tend to be smaller areas with a lot packed in!

  • You can ride beginner forest tracks and loops to some quite technical rainforest single-track, flowing jumps, downhill features and cross-country style.

  • Have a look a at these ones to get you started: Tewantin Mountain Bike Park in Tewantin State Forest (some seriously fun and flowy trails); Sugar Bag at Maroochydore, Parklands (tight, technical) and the Mapleton Downhill. There is lots of development in this area, sparked in some by the Olympic Games coming in 2032.

7. Gold Coast Hinterland / Nerang National Park (Gold Coast, QLD, approx 1-1.5 hrs from Brisbane)

  • Just 12km from Surfers Paradise and a few kms from the Nerang Train Station, Nerang National Park hosted the mountain biking events for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. It has a large network of trails, with approx 60km of single track.

  • On the whole it is predominantly cross country style riding, however there are great descents and lots of trails with high level of technical difficulty for those seeking the black and double black-style trails.

  • TIP: If you haven't ridden there before join one of the social rides hosted by Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club to get your bearings.

Why Ride an EMTB?

As soon as you say 'mountain' you know you are in for some climbing. Of course, the reward is the downhill but with our sharp, steep terrain in SEQ you can get gassed pretty quickly.

Having an electric mountain bike (or EMTB) helps overcome that and turns those climbs into something you enjoy. Tech and design has moved on so much now that an EMTB handles as well or better downhill too so mountain biking with an EMTB opens up whole new dimension of fun.

No need to take the shuttle. Just ride it (and get more laps in). For those of us who don't ride as much as we'd like, having the pedal assist means you can get out there and have an enjoyable ride regardless of your level of fitness.

So, whether you’re chasing gravity-fed descents at Nerang, weaving through the lush forests of Daisy Hill, or tackling the epic networks of Hidden Vale, Brisbane sits at the heart of some of Australia’s best mountain biking. The right eMTB can make every climb smoother , every downhill more fun and every ride longer — helping you explore more trails, more often.
