Orbea Rise. Resets the Benchmark for Lightweight E-Mountain Bikes
Orbea have just released the next generation Orbea Rise eMTB. This is their best Rise yet and it continues to set the benchmark for lightweight ebikes tipping the scales from just 15.9kg.
Rise shook up the lightweight e-MTB world on its launch with it's "more bike, less E" philosophy. It has become renowned for its exceptional handling and ride feel, delivering what many consider to the most natural feeling e-mountain bike on the market and shattering expectations about how an ebike should ride.Â
This new generation Rise is lighter than ever, more minimal than ever with its interface and looks, and has a longer range battery with more range extender options. Plus the carbon and H10 models feature Shimano's new EP801 motor with Orbea's RS tuning.
The new Rise is ready to open up longer adventures and take you to even more epic locations.
What's New. Orbea Rise 2023 EMTB
Here is a snapshot of what is new for the Orbea Rise in 2023.Â
Power: The RS MotorÂ
All 2023 carbon Rise models and the alloy H10 model feature Shimano's new EP801 motor with Orbea's RS (Rider Synergy) setup. The new motor offers more adjustability and connectivity than ever, but maintains the RS philosophy that Orbea designed for this platform with the goal of offering a natural power delivery.
The alloy H20 and H30 models will feature the EP600 RS motor, which has the same RS features as the EP801 but with an aluminium housing instead of magnesium.
Batteries and Range
Orbea has completely redesigned and optimised the 360Wh battery for the Rise family. As well as saving weight and being more compact the new battery offers a better charge and discharge ratio and better heat management. This adds up to better efficiency and therefore more range.
New Tech, More Options: More AutonomyÂ
One of the big differences between the Gen 1 carbon and alloy models last year is the carbon models have a 360Wh battery and the alloy models have a larger 540Wh battery. The batteries are integrated into the frame and not removable, however Orbea offered (and continue to offer) a 252Wh range extender if you plan more epic rides.
This continues into 2023 however, as long as you order before it is built, Orbea now offer the option to:
- For the carbon models, swap out to 540Wh if you want more range
- For the alloy models, swap out to 360Wh if you want a lighter weight
RS Interface: Even CleanerÂ
With the new Shimano EP801 RS motor comes the EN600 wireless control. Because this also has a power button it means the power button is now removed from the frame.
There is the option in MYO to add the EN600 cycle computer if you want to display the typical ebike data (assistance level etc).
However if you want to keep it as much like a non ebike as possible there is still the RS Garmin IQ app. Â
New Rise: Lighter Than Ever
Along with reducing the battery weight, Orbea worked on other aspects to achieve the lightest of ebikes.
For example, the Rise link has been completely redesigned to provide greater rigidity.
The bonus is that this link is now compatible with the Orbea FLP Multitool, originally introduced on the Occam.Â
This means that riders can conveniently carry multiple allen keys on their bike (it is housed in the axle and held in place with magnets).Â

Orbea Rise eMTB Carbon ("M") Models
There are four Rise models with carbon frames (the "M" models) and the table below provides a comparison of the standard specs for each model.
All have the same electric drive system, come with a 360Wh battery as standard, and have the same carbon frame platform so the key differences between the models are suspension, drivetrain and wheelset choice. The top-of-the-range model, the M-LTD, is the lightest at 15.9kg.Â
Another great feature of most of the "M" models is that you can take advantage of Orbea's MYO service and customise your bike. Choose your paintwork and also fine tune your specs so you get your dream ride.Â
