FAQs

How do I book a Kalkhoff Test Ride at your Milton Store?

Easy. Just book a test ride online or call us. The best way to choose a Kalkhoff is to ride one properly. Our Milton showroom has free parking, a large Kalkhoff selection and a team that will help you compare frame style, motor feel, comfort position, weight, range and carrying options. We will suggest a test ride route that suits your confidence level and gives you a real feel for Brisbane riding, from gears and hills to corners, gutters and imperfect road surfaces. We are located at 26 Douglas St, Milton.

Which Kalkhoff model is best for commuting in Brisbane?

For pure urban commuting, start with the Image range — upright, comfortable, low maintenance. For commuting that also includes bikeways, rail trails and weekend adventures, the Entice range is usually the better fit. The Endeavour sits in the middle: a sportier commuter and trekking bike for riders who cover real distance.

Is Kalkhoff a good brand?

Yes. Kalkhoff has been manufacturing eBikes in Germany since 1919 and has been independently rated by CHOICE magazine as one of the best value electric bikes in Australia, and they are regularly winners in global 'Best Of' awards. Kalkhoff bikes have among the lowest warranty rates of any brand stocked at Electric Bikes Brisbane. Five, eight and ten-year-old Kalkhoffs regularly return to the workshop for routine servicing — still going strong.

How far can I ride on a Kalkhoff eBike in Brisbane?

A practical guide for Brisbane's hilly conditions: expect approximately 80–100km from 600Wh or 625Wh batteries on mixed terrain with some hills, and roughly 20% more from an 800Wh setup. Flat bikeway riding will extend that further.

What makes Kalkhoff different from cheaper electric bikes?

Kalkhoff tests every in-house component to a minimum of 30,000km before it goes into production. Every model uses a Bosch mid-drive system and comes with a 10-year frame guarantee. The difference often shows at 1,000 kilometres — frame rigidity, component adjustment and overall ride comfort remain strong where cheaper bikes begin to show wear.

Can I test ride a Kalkhoff before buying?

Yes. Electric Bikes Brisbane's Milton showroom at 26 Douglas St has Kalkhoff models assembled and ready to ride Tuesday to Saturday. Book a test ride online or call the store to check which models and sizes are available.

Does EBB offer ongoing servicing for Kalkhoff eBikes?

Yes. The Milton workshop services all Kalkhoff models including Bosch drive systems, belt drive, and Enviolo internal gearing. EBB Owners Club members (included with every purchase) receive 25% or more off all ongoing servicing.

Are Kalkhoff eBikes heavy?

Most fully-equipped Kalkhoff models weigh around 25–26kg. The weight is kept low and central on Kalkhoff bikes, making them feel stable and confident despite the weight. The battery is easily removable on every model. Lightweight L-series models are also available if you prefer to consider something lighter.

Kalkhoff Electric Bikes Brisbane — German-Made, Bosch-Powered, Built to Last

Kalkhoff electric bikes are ideal if you want a German-made Bosch eBike that feels comfortable, practical and is genuinely built for real everyday use. At Electric Bikes Brisbane, we have been helping SE QLD riders choose and service eBikes since 2013, and we have been an accredited Kalkhoff dealer since 2015. The 2026 Kalkhoff range ("K26") is one of the strongest we have seen in over a decade of stocking the brand — with models for commuting, touring, rail trails, everyday transport and confident comfort riding across Brisbane's hills, bikeways and rougher roads. This page contains the models that are available in Australia plus some prior season models.

Kalkhoff has been manufacturing electric bikes in Germany since 1919. That heritage shows in how these bikes are built: every component fitted to a Kalkhoff frame must be tested to last at least 30,000 kilometres before it makes it onto a production bike. In Australia, Kalkhoff has been independently rated by CHOICE magazine as one of the best value electric bikes available. Our customers tell the same story — we regularly see Kalkhoff bikes returning to the workshop for routine servicing after five, eight, even ten years of regular riding. They don't want to sell them.

The Three Kalkhoff Families — Which One Fits Your Riding?

Kalkhoff organises its range into three model families. Once you understand the difference, choosing becomes much simpler.

Endeavour — Trekking and Commuter

The Endeavour is Kalkhoff's trekking and commuter platform. It sits in the middle ground between a purely urban bike and a dedicated rail trail bike. Smoother road-oriented tyres, an upright but slightly sportier geometry than the Image, and a focus on covering distance comfortably. If you are commuting daily, exploring bikeway networks, or want a dependable touring companion for longer rides, the Endeavour is the natural starting point.

Entice — All-Terrain All-Rounder

The Entice is Kalkhoff's most versatile family and our most popular Kalkhoff style at EBB. It is built for riders who want one bike that does everything: daily commuting, weekend rail trail runs, gravel paths, creek crossings and longer adventures. The Entice has a more off-road-oriented tyre tread and a sportier geometry than the Endeavour — still upright and comfortable, but more planted and stable when conditions get rougher. When a Brisbane City Council team needed a fleet eBike capable of thousands of kilometres monitoring bikeways and footpaths across the city, they chose the Kalkhoff Entice. The step-through frame, front rack compatibility and all-terrain capability made it the right tool for the job.

Image — Urban Comfort

The Image is Kalkhoff's purely urban model. Think Dutch-style upright riding position, suspension seatpost for smoothing out Brisbane's rougher roads, internal gearing for low-maintenance city riding, and a clean integrated look. If you are mostly riding around town, commuting on bikeways, or want a comfortable everyday glider that looks sharp, the Image range is where to start.

Not sure which family fits you? Talk to our team or book a test ride at our Milton store — we will have you ride more than one if you are unsure.

Understanding the Kalkhoff Model Numbers

Within each family, the number in the model name tells you the specification level. Here is what each level means in practice:

  • Level 1 — Entry level. German engineering and Bosch motors at an accessible price point.
  • Level 3 — Mid-range. Fully integrated battery and a clean, modern look. The most popular level for everyday Brisbane riders.
  • Level 5 and 5+ — Premium. Something genuinely special in the build: belt drive, heavy-duty 170kg+ rating, or both.
  • Level 7 and 7+ — Top of range. The best Bosch motor system, the best components, top-tier equipment. Includes dual suspension models and ABS braking on selected variants.
  • Level L — Lightweight. Bosch SX-powered for riders who love the natural feel of cycling and want a nimble, lighter eBike.
  • Level C — Compact. 20-inch wheels for urban riders with limited storage, apartment living, or a preference for a smaller, more manageable bike.

Why Kalkhoff? The Quality Case in Plain Language

Every 2026 Kalkhoff model — unless it is specifically a lightweight model — carries a minimum 150kg total system weight rating. Many models in the 5+ and 7+ range are rated to 170kg or 180kg. To earn those ratings, Kalkhoff tests every frame and every in-house component to at least 30,000 kilometres of simulated real-world use before it goes into production.

The result is a bike that feels different at 1,000 kilometres than it does on a first test ride — not worse, better. The frame stays tight. The components hold their adjustment. The ride remains comfortable. That is what the testing is there to deliver.

Every Kalkhoff in our range is powered by a Bosch mid-drive system, manufactured and serviced in Germany. Bosch motors are reliable, widely serviced, and hold their value. For a full breakdown of which Bosch system suits which type of riding, see our Bosch eBike Brisbane Guide.

Riding Kalkhoff in Brisbane — What to Expect

Brisbane is a genuine test for any eBike: steep streets, humid summers, wet-season grime, potholes, bikeways, rougher rail trail sections and everything in between. Sam has ridden almost every Kalkhoff model on our floor while filming EBB's ride and product videos. One of the most memorable was using a Kalkhoff Entice with a Bosch Performance Line motor to demonstrate climbing technique on Door Knock Terrace in Milton — right around the corner from our store — and then on Eaton Street in Auchenflower, one of Brisbane's steepest. The Entice handled both with ease and felt stable on the descents, despite the Performance Line not being the most powerful Bosch option in the range.

For rail trail riding and longer adventures, we have prepared guides based on our own experience and feedback from our most experienced customers. See our eBike How-To Guides for trip preparation, route suggestions and practical advice for SE QLD riding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kalkhoff eBikes in Brisbane

Which Kalkhoff model is best for commuting in Brisbane?

For pure urban commuting, start with the Image range — upright, comfortable, low maintenance. For commuting that also includes bikeways, rail trails and weekend adventures, the Entice range is usually the better fit. The Endeavour sits in the middle: a sportier commuter and trekking bike for riders who cover real distance. Book a test ride and we will help you compare them in person.

Is Kalkhoff a good brand?

Yes — and our workshop history backs that up. Kalkhoff has been manufacturing eBikes in Germany since 1919 and has been independently rated by CHOICE magazine as one of the best value electric bikes in Australia. Kalkhoff bikes have among the lowest warranty rates of any brand we stock. We regularly see five, eight and ten-year-old Kalkhoffs come in for a service — still going strong, with owners who have no interest in replacing them.

Actual range depends on rider weight, assist mode, load, tyre pressure and conditions. We can help you model expected range for your specific routes when you visit the store.

Are Kalkhoff eBikes heavy?

Most fully-equipped Kalkhoff models (with rack, mudguards, lights and kickstand) weigh around 25–26kg. For context, that is similar to most other fully-equipped eBikes. The weight sits low on Kalkhoff bikes — their centre of gravity is deliberately kept low — which makes them feel more stable and confident to ride than the number might suggest. The battery is easily removable on every model, which helps if you need to lift the bike into a car or up stairs. Lightweight L-series models are also available if weight is a priority.

What makes Kalkhoff different from cheaper electric bikes?

Kalkhoff focuses on what you cannot see on a spec sheet: frame manufacturing quality, component testing standards, and long-term ride feel. Every in-house component is tested to a minimum of 30,000km before it makes it onto a production bike. You may feel similarly on a first test ride comparing brands, but at 1,000 kilometres the differences in frame rigidity, component adjustment and overall comfort start to show. German manufacturing, Bosch motors, and a 10-year frame guarantee are the tangible markers of that commitment.

Can I test ride a Kalkhoff before buying?

Yes. Our Milton showroom at 26 Douglas St has a range of Kalkhoff models assembled and ready to ride. Book a test ride online to let us know you are coming so we can have the right bikes prepared. You do not need to be a confident rider — many of our Kalkhoff customers are returning to cycling after a break, and we take the time to set the bike up and explain the controls before heading out.

Does EBB offer ongoing servicing for Kalkhoff eBikes?

Yes. Our Milton workshop services all Kalkhoff models, including Bosch drive systems, belt drive models, and Enviolo internal gearing. As an EBB Owners Club member (included with every purchase), you receive 25%+ off all ongoing servicing. We offer same-day turnaround on standard services, plus mobile servicing and roadside assistance packages. See the full Owners Club benefits here.
