Riese & Muller Delite & Delite Mountain: How to choose?

September 02, 2020

Riese & Muller Delite ebikes, Key Differences | Electric Bikes Brisbane

The Riese & Muller Delite ebike is one of the signature models in the Riese & Muller lineup, and one that has helped pave the way for ultra-comfortable, high-performance bike touring.

There are two types of Delite (and Superdelite) ebike: the Delite GT (Grand Tourer) or Delite Mountain version with variations in between.

If you've been umm'ing and ah'ing about which one is for you read on for a snapshot of the key differences between them.

The Delite Differences: A Snaphot

The options for configuring the Delite (or Superdelite, which is the dual battery 1,125Wh version) range from urban dream machine to luxury on and offroad tourer to gnarly back country explorer.

The bike platform is the same for each variation ie. same frame, geometry and motor however the running gear is very different.

If you are trying to decide which of the models and configurations suits you best the big question to answer first is what riding do you intend to do, 90% of the time?

The key determinant on which model will suit you best is the terrain you will be riding: Predominantly tarmac and gravel roads at one end of the spectrum (Delite GT) or steep, rough offroad trails at the other (Delite Mountain).

There is also an in-between option, the Delite GT with the GX package upgrade.

The GX package can be configured with the GT models and we think this is a great option for those wanting mountain capability with the touring accessory features. A top backcountry touring bike.

Riese & Muller Delite GT Models

The Delite GT models are the "Grand Tourers", aka "GT". These come equipped with componentry and accessories most suitable for urban riding and bikepacking with enough flexibility to be able to handle dirt tracks such as rail trails when required. Here are the key differences to the Delite Mountain and see further below for the various customisation options available.

Key differences to the Delite Mountain

  • Comes with a kickstand and mudguards – not available for the Mountain
  • Comes with rear carry rack and Abus Bordo 6000 lock - available as an extra with the Mountain
  • Standard suspension is Suntour Aion 100mm – can upgrade to Fox Float 34 with 100mm or Fox Float 34 with 140mm (GX option, see more below)

Ready for everything. GX and Suspension Upgrades

If you are looking for more offroad performance then you can take advantage of two excellent upgrades offered for the Riese & Muller Delite.  We explain them in this video below.

The "air suspension upgrade" swaps out the standard Suntour Aion forks with 100mm travel to the Fox Float Performance air suspension fork with 100mm travel. This fork has the GRIP damping system which enables finer tuning with 15 adjustable rebound damping levels depending on your terrain.

The "GX" option ups the ante to 140mm travel with the highly regarded Suntour Aion air suspension fork with 140mm travel.  If you opt for both the "air suspension upgrade" and the "GX package" then the suspension is upgraded to Fox.

The GX package turns your Delite into a capable offroad machine by also adding offroad Razor Rock tires and a dropper seatpost to complement your extra suspension performance.

Delite Mountain Models and Options

The Delite Mountain models are mountain bikes with more relaxed geometry for comfortable riding, and with componentry and accessories to handle more aggressive terrain. Riese & Muller add a few extras as well eg. the Supernova M99 front headlight which means you can use it for urban riding too if you want.

Here are the key differences to the Delite GT models and see further below for the various customisation options available.

Key differences to the Delite GT

  • Comes with Fox Float 36 Performance suspension with 150mm
  • Smaller chain ring for gearing more suitable for mountain climbing
  • Comes with Kiox display as standard
  • Has an aggressive, high performance mountain bike tire, suitable for high speed descending and cornering
