When Orbea launched the Rise back in 2020 it changed the perception of what E-Mountain Bikes could do. The Rise offered a level of integration, performance and range that helped shape the lightweight ebike category, winning extensive “Best of” accolades with the press and test centres year after year.
Orbea hasn’t rested on its laurels though. It has been busy, striving to make the best even better. A dedicated team of electronics engineers have pushed batteries and communications to a new limit while their mechanical design team were working on frames and testing with their OOlab team.
The result? Orbea is ready to reshape the lightweight e-bike market once again with the 2025 Rise.
Further, Faster and More Fun: A Damn Fine Allrounder
"The new Orbea Rise 2025 shines in many respects and stands out as a damn fine all rounder.
To start with, Orbea’s MyO online configurator offers a huge selection of components, allowing you to customise your bike down to the smallest detail, regardless of what type of rider you are.
On the trail, it’s tons of fun, both up and downhill, and proves an excellent companion for newbies and seasoned trail bums alike, regardless of whether you’re embarking on an epic Alpine crossing, or simply hitting your local woods for a quick post-work lap."
What's New: 2025 Orbea Rise eMTB
The 2025 Orbea Rise design means it is the world’s lightest full power EMTB, plus it re-writes the rule book on ebike handling and versatility.
It is packed full of major and minor changes. Here are the top three:
1. New Lightweight Carbon Frame
The 2025 Orbea Rise LT features a revolutionary design that sets it apart from other eMTBs. Weighing in at just 16.5 kg, this eMTB offers an agile and responsive ride, making it perfect weapon for the majority of the trail networks in SEQ.
Tuned Rigidity: Stiff In The Right Place: Bikes can be too stiff, or too flexible. High
performance bikes need the correct rigidity, in the correct places. Orbea have worked hard to increase front triangle stiffness by 8% and rear triangle stiffness by 14% giving the perfect balance. This is where their testing shows the sweet spot for handling lies; stiff enough for hard cornering and braking, but not too stiff which would limit grip and increase rider fatigue. As a testimony to Orbea's attention to detail, the frame stiffness is tuned according to frame size.
Asymmetric Design: Rise's new asymmetric frame design, already proven in the new Occam and Rallon, is key to finding the perfect structural performance. The position of the brace, together with Orbea's SBS (Secure Battery System) increases torsional rigidity. The result? The best ride performance, meaning precise, confident handling no matter what the trail.
Long Travel Droppers: Steep-n-deep has set a new standard in bike design, the ability to fit a long travel dropper lets riders drop the saddle right out of the way on the descents, giving more space for more control. Now all Rise riders should be able to fully insert a 200mm dropper and on sizes L and XL that increases to 230mm.
Frame Geometry: The frame geometry of the 2025 Orbea Rise LT is designed for optimal performance on the trail. With a slack head angle and a steep seat tube angle, the Rise LT offers a perfect balance of stability and agility. This geometry allows riders to tackle technical descents with confidence while maintaining efficiency on climbs.
Enduro Mountainbike Magazine praises the frame design, stating,
"Orbea has nailed the geometry with the Rise LT, providing a ride that feels both playful and composed. The slack head angle inspires confidence on descents, while the steep seat tube angle ensures power transfer is maximized during climbs."
A very cool feature that comes with the LT models is the flip chip. It is quick and easy to change the flip chip into the high position to climb, raises the bottom bracket by 8mm and enables a more upright pedalling position, and back down into low to slacken the head angle by 0.5 of a degree before hitting the trail downhill again.
2. 'Rider Synergy' Gen2 Concept: Choose Full Power or Natural
Rider Synergy (RS) is Orbea ́s custom firmware which offers the “Less e more bike” concept. It works with Shimano's EP8 motors to give the most natural, elastic assistance and best in class battery range.
Rider Synergy, RS Gen2 with EP801
At the heart of the 2025 Orbea Rise is the latest Shimano EP801-RS motor, which has been optimized for an exceptional power-to-weight ratio.
The bike also comes with two factory tunes RS and RS+, with the + being the more aggressive map:
- RS mode offers a maximum of 54 Nm of torque, for those seeking the natural and elastic assistance delivered in the cadence range where your body is working best.
- RS+ mode takes advantage of the full 85 Nm of torque to give a ride that feels natural and powerful when you are pushing harder.
Both modes are configurable via the Shimano E-Tube app.
The Rise now offers 15% more power, delivered at lower cadences, compared to the previous bike plus you can now get max torque delivered at just 45rpm.
3. New Longer-Range Battery Options
16% More Riding In Every Gram: Orbea's latest generation of batteries offer more power without adding extra weight, giving an energy density better than any other battery currently on the market. The result is more range, without increased weight. Orbea riders are regularly clocking up more than 3,000m of climbing on a single charge with the bigger batteries.
A Battery For Every Ride: Your Battery Options
- 420Wh battery, For The Lightest Ride. Riders looking for the best handling and lightest Rise will choose the 420Wh. For those longer rides you also have the option to use the new Range Extender.
- 630Wh Battery, For Maximum Range: Riders looking for the longest range can choose the 630Wh battery.
- 210Wh Range Extender, Easy-to-add range extender when you need that bit extra. Smaller than a water bottle and weighing just over 1kg.
Choose Your Ride: Rise LT and Rise SL
There are two versions of the Rise to choose from (SL & LT) depending on the style of rider you are. If you don't want to stick with the standard configurations each model can be custom-configured at the time of purchase with Orbea ́s MyO program.
The SL and LT models are based on the same frame platform and use a different shock mount. On the SL version, this is made of carbon and allows you to run a shock with less stroke – i.e. less travel. All new Rise variants roll on 29″ wheels.
Orbea Rise LT: Long Travel for Trail Shredder's
- 160mm / 150mm of plush travel
- Aggressive modern trail geometry giving the bike confident but fun handling on the most technical trails
- Suspension is more progressive, works well with either air or coil shocks
The Rise LT is available in three carbon models, the M-Team which is the top spec version, the M10 and M20. There is also two alloy versions, the H10 and H20.
