Part of our full Orbea electric bike range — see the main Orbea collection for the complete brand overview, adventure touring, eMTB, and gravel categories.
Brisbane is a hilly city. Anyone who has climbed Highgate Hill, pushed up through Toowong, or crested into Ashgrove on a conventional bike knows exactly what that means. The right commuter e-bike changes that entirely — and at Electric Bikes Brisbane, we stock three of Orbea’s best urban builds to suit three very different riders. Whether you’re drawn to the slimline lightness of the Orbea Carpe, the innovative design of the Orbea Diem, or the athletic versatility of the Orbea Kemen Tour, you’ll find it here — and we test ride every single model so we can tell you exactly how it performs on Brisbane’s streets.
Three Bikes. One City. Different Riders.
The Orbea commuter range covers the full spectrum of urban riding, from a featherweight city bike that slips into a lift and onto a train, to a confident urban tourer that handles gravel roads as easily as sealed bikeways. What all three share is Orbea’s Shimano EP6 mid-drive motor — 85Nm of torque, tuned specifically for city riding — and the kind of build quality that comes from a brand with decades of manufacturing heritage.
Orbea Carpe — Lightweight. Slimline. Set and Forget.
The Carpe is for the rider who wants a bike that disappears into city life. At 17.7–20.9kg (depending on model), it is one of the lightest mid-drive commuter e-bikes available. The frame is hydroformed 6061 alloy with Orbea’s Twin Glide Flex technology — a built-in flex zone in the seat tube that absorbs road vibration without added suspension weight — paired with a carbon fork. The integrated 420Wh battery is tucked seamlessly into the downtube, and an optional 252Wh range extender takes total capacity to 670Wh.
The flagship Carpe 10 pairs the Shimano EP6 motor with a Gates CDX belt drive and Shimano Nexus Inter-5 Di2 electronic internal hub — near-zero maintenance and perfectly smooth shifting through Brisbane traffic. The handlebars rotate 90 degrees and the pedals fold flat, making it genuinely apartment-friendly. An ABUS frame lock is integrated into the rear stays on the Carpe 10. The Carpe 20 adds full fenders, a rear rack, and Shimano CUES 9-speed, while the Carpe 25 is the lean, rack-free entry point — clean lines, low weight, 17.7kg.
Our Carpe buyers prefer the slimline look: a bike that doesn’t shout “ebike” at every traffic light and handles as naturally as a non-assisted bike in urban traffic.
Carpe pricing: Carpe 25 from $5,899 — Carpe 20 $6,799 — Carpe 10 $7,999
Orbea Diem — Innovation. Unique Design. Daily Reliability.
The Diem draws people in for its looks — it is a genuinely distinctive bike, with a patented Diamond Glide Frame, Supernova lighting integrated into the headset and rear fender, and a design that signals innovation rather than convention. But it earns its place in a commuter range through pure everyday functionality: integrated lighting, full fenders, rear rack (rated to 44 lbs / 20kg), 630Wh battery, and a Shimano EP6 motor that makes Brisbane’s steepest hills feel like flat road.
The Diem 10 is the flagship — Gates Carbon Drive belt with Enviolo automatic-shifting drivetrain, Shimano EP8 motor, 630Wh battery, dropper seatpost, and Supernova Startstream Pro front and rear lights. It genuinely requires no intervention from the rider beyond pedalling: the drivetrain shifts itself, the lights come on automatically as daylight fades, and the USB-C charge port under the stem keeps your phone topped up. The Diem 20 uses the same EP6 motor with a belt-driven Shimano Nexus internally geared hub and the same 630Wh battery. The Diem 30 is the entry point: Shimano EP6, 540Wh battery, Shimano CUES chain drivetrain, still fully equipped with fenders, rack, and Supernova lights.
Our Diem buyers are drawn by innovation and unique design — they appreciate a bike that does things other commuters haven’t seen before.
Diem pricing: Diem 30 from $7,399 — Diem 20 $8,599 — Diem 10 $10,199
Orbea Kemen Tour — Athletic. Versatile. Ready for More Than Just Commuting.
The Kemen Tour is a commuter that doesn’t limit itself. Built around a hydroformed 6061 alloy frame, 29” wheels, an 80mm SR Suntour air fork, Schwalbe Marathon tyres, and a 630Wh battery (540Wh on the Tour 30), it is a lively, athletic bike that handles Brisbane’s bikeways beautifully and still feels at home on gravel roads. It is available in step-over and mid-step frame styles, and in Class 1 (25km/h) or Class 3 (no price difference) configurations.
All Kemen Tour models carry Supernova integrated lighting, a MIK-compatible rear rack, and Shimano CUES gearing (9, 10, or 11-speed depending on model). The Tour 10 steps up with Magura AT2 hydraulic brakes, an 11-speed drivetrain, and an uprated Mobie air fork. An optional 252Wh range extender pairs with the standard battery to cover even the longest days.
Kemen Tour buyers tend to be looking for a more traditional commuter silhouette — a practical, capable bike that also has the athleticism to handle a gravel detour on the weekend without skipping a beat.
Kemen Tour pricing: Kemen Tour 30 from $6,499 — Tour 20 $8,899
Why the Shimano EP6 Matters in Brisbane
All three bikes run a Shimano EP6 mid-drive motor (Diem 10 uses the EP8). At 85Nm, the EP6 delivers considerably more torque than a typical hub motor — and in a hilly city like Brisbane, that difference is felt immediately. Hub motors run out of steam on steep sustained climbs; the EP6 does not. It stays strong from the flat bikeways along the river all the way up through Toowong and back down through the suburbs. It also offers the least resistance when riding unassisted — something hub motors struggle with considerably.
Practical Questions, Answered
The most common question we hear at EBB about commuter e-bikes is about security. These are striking-looking bikes, and we understand the concern. Our recommendation: invest in a quality lock (Kryptonite New York or similar), use the integrated ABUS lock on the Carpe 10 as a secondary measure, and consider a Bluetooth tracker in the Carpe’s hidden frame compartment. Be thoughtful about where you lock up. As with any quality bike, a security-conscious mindset protects your investment.
For apartment dwellers, the Carpe’s 90-degree folding handlebars and fold-flat pedals reduce the bike’s footprint considerably, and at 17.7kg for the Carpe 25, it is genuinely manageable up stairs and into a lift. All three Orbea commuter bikes are lighter than most e-bikes of comparable specification. Battery safety is also frequently asked: all Shimano e-bike systems used across this range are UL 2849-certified, the same standard as Bosch.
For app users: all three bikes are supported by the Shimano E-Tube Ride app (iOS and Android), which provides navigation, motor tuning, and ride data. A display is not required — the app handles it all.
Brisbane’s Orbea Commuter Specialists
Our Milton workshop — run by a Platinum Orbea dealer accredited for Shimano motor systems — has been servicing commuter e-bikes since 2017. Every service, tune, and repair stays in-house with technicians who know these bikes thoroughly. A performance-focused commuter bike requires genuine technical knowledge to service and maintain; that’s exactly what we provide. All Orbea frames carry a lifetime warranty.
We are in Milton — free parking right out front, two minutes from the Bicentennial Bikeway. Come in, test ride the Carpe, the Diem, and the Kemen Tour back to back, and find out which one is yours. If you want a custom commuter build through Orbea’s MyO program, we can arrange that too.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Orbea Carpe, Diem, and Kemen Tour?
The Carpe is a lightweight urban e-bike (17.7–20.9kg) focused on slim design, apartment-friendly storage features, and a 420Wh battery (extendable to 670Wh). The Diem is a premium urban commuter with a larger 630Wh battery, innovative frame design with integrated Supernova lighting, and automatic or belt-driven drivetrains. The Kemen Tour is a more traditional, athletic commuter on 29” wheels with an 80mm fork, 630Wh battery, and the versatility to handle gravel as well as sealed bikeways. All three use Shimano EP6 mid-drive motors (85Nm).
Are these e-bikes suitable for Brisbane’s hills?
Yes — all three bikes use Shimano EP6 mid-drive motors with 85Nm of torque, which is significantly more powerful than typical hub-motor commuter e-bikes. The EP6 maintains strong assistance on sustained climbs like Highgate Hill, Toowong, and Ashgrove where hub motors typically struggle. The Diem 10 uses the even more powerful Shimano EP8 motor.
How far can I ride on a single charge?
The Carpe’s 420Wh battery covers approximately 50–80km depending on terrain and assist level, and can be extended to 670Wh with the optional range extender. The Diem 20 and 30 carry a 630Wh and 540Wh battery respectively, suitable for most Brisbane commutes with range to spare. The Kemen Tour carries a 630Wh battery (540Wh on the Tour 30) and is also compatible with a 252Wh range extender. For typical Brisbane commutes of 10–30km return, all three bikes will manage multiple days between charges on standard assist.
Is the Orbea Carpe suitable for apartment storage?
Yes — the Carpe 10 features handlebars that rotate 90 degrees and fold-flat pedals, significantly reducing the bike’s footprint for storage in a hallway, basement, or bike room. At 17.7kg (Carpe 25) to 20.9kg (Carpe 10), the Carpe is lighter than most e-bikes in its class, making it manageable in a lift or up stairs. The Carpe 20 and 25 can be optioned with folding pedals and foldable stem at time of order.
Are Orbea commuter e-bikes safe to charge at home?
Yes — all Shimano e-bike systems used across the Carpe, Diem, and Kemen Tour are UL 2849-certified for electrical safety. This is the same standard used by Bosch, one of the most trusted names in e-bike systems. The batteries are integrated into the frame and charge via a standard charger supplied with the bike.
What app do these bikes use?
All three bikes are compatible with the Shimano E-Tube Ride app (iOS and Android). The app provides motor mode selection, navigation, ride data, and system diagnostics. A separate display unit is not required — a phone mount is included on several models. The Carpe 10 includes an SP Connect phone holder as standard.
Can I customise my Orbea commuter e-bike with the MyO program?
Yes — Orbea is the only e-bike brand offering deep customisation through their MyO configurator, covering frame colour, finish, decals, and selected components. Electric Bikes Brisbane can arrange a custom order that is built at Orbea’s factory in Mallabia, Spain, and flown directly to our Milton store.
What security measures do you recommend for commuter e-bikes?
We recommend investing in a high-quality lock such as a Kryptonite New York series. The Carpe 10 includes an integrated ABUS frame lock mounting point as standard, and a hidden AirTag-compatible compartment is built into the frame for tracking. Be thoughtful about where you lock up — secure to a fixed structure and loop through the frame and rear wheel. A secondary cable lock for the front wheel is also worthwhile for longer parking periods.
How much do Orbea commuter e-bikes cost in Brisbane?
The Orbea Carpe ranges from $5,899 (Carpe 25) to $7,999 (Carpe 10). The Orbea Diem ranges from $7,399 (Diem 30) to $10,199 (Diem 10). The Orbea Kemen Tour starts from $6,499 (Tour 30) to $8,899 (Tour 10). All prices include GST. Finance options are available — ask us in store.
