What Is the Bosch eBike Flow App?
The Bosch eBike Flow App is the central control hub for every Bosch Smart System eBike. From one place you can pair your eBike, build and customise your riding modes, fine-tune motor settings, manage security features, navigate and plan routes, track your rides, and install over-the-air software updates. For Brisbane riders, it's especially handy — whether you're commuting into the city, heading out on a tour, tackling SE QLD hills and trails like those around Mount Coot-tha, or running a shared cargo eBike, the Flow App is where you tailor the bike to the ride.
How to Pair Your Bosch eBike With the Flow App
- Create your Flow App account and log in, then turn your eBike on.
- Tap Connect eBike in the app.
- Select the control unit you have on your bike (for example, the LED Remote).
- Check the bike is close by, switched on and has its battery inserted, then tap Continue.
- Long-press the power button on the bike until you see the blue blinking LED — the display will show "pairing."
- Allow all the permissions the app asks for, so information like GPS syncs through properly.
- Confirm the pairing and wait a moment — the home screen will show your bike as connected.
Once you're paired, the home screen gives you a quick overview: whether the bike is currently connected, your battery level, and a range estimate that updates based on the mode you're in. Down the bottom you'll find your mileage — including how far you've travelled in each mode. As Alex jokes, it's a good way to spot those 99% Turbo users out there.
Customising Your Riding Modes
Under custom riding modes, you'll see the modes currently installed. Using Edit List, you can choose up to four active modes at a time from Eco, Tour, Tour+, Auto, Sport, eMTB and Turbo. Alex's tip: Auto is a lovely mode for commuting and riding around, but it's not the most economical — it uses more juice than Tour or Tour+. And whenever you see a "+", it simply means a higher-supported version of that mode: a little more power that makes the ride easier, at the cost of slightly more battery.
Tap any mode to open its customisation screen, where you can adjust the following parameters.
Assistance
Assistance controls the support level — the relationship between how hard you push on the pedal and how much motor you get in return. Turn it up and the motor works harder for you, making riding easier. Turn it down for more range or a more dynamic feel where you push harder to earn the power.
Dynamic Response
Dynamic controls how quickly the motor comes up to power when you start pedalling. If the bike feels jumpy or is shooting you forward faster than you'd like, turn it down. If you want a fast, aggressive, punchy delivery for city riding or technical trails, turn it up.
Maximum Speed
Most riders leave max speed pinned all the way up. It's handy for setting a lower limit — for example, if you've bought the bike for one of the grandkids and only want them doing 20 km/h, you can dial it back.
Maximum Torque — Unlocking 120 Nm on Gen 5 Motors
This is the exciting one. Every Gen 5 motor comes set to 85 Nm from the factory. Through the Max Torque parameter, you can upgrade a Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor up to 120 Nm, or a PX motor up to 90 Nm. The app shows a warning: "High max torque. As a result, the wear of the drivetrain components can increase" — so the more you use that power, the quicker you'll go through chains and the rest of the drivetrain. You can also turn torque down. Alex personally runs one of his modes at 400 W in his more economical setup — great when he wants a bit more of a workout or is riding with his smaller battery.
Torque vs Power — What's the Difference?
Torque and power are two different things. Torque is how hard the motor pulls you up a hill; power is how fast it pulls you up. You're always limited to the 25 km/h assist limit, but when it comes to sustaining a higher average speed up a climb, it's usually power that gets you there.
Mode Changes Are Per Mode — Not Global
Every mode is independent, so any change you make only applies to that mode. If you set Turbo to 100 Nm, your Auto mode stays at the factory default of 85 Nm and 600 W. A "customised" indicator appears on any mode you've altered, and there's a reset button in the top-right of the screen to return a mode to factory defaults at any time.
eBike Lock and Security Features
eBike Lock (Free)
eBike Lock is free to use with your bike. When enabled, the motor won't engage unless the bike sees an approved key — either its Kiox display or your phone over Bluetooth — so nobody can just switch it on and ride off. Enable it under the settings cog, then choose your unlock method: phone, Kiox display, or both. Alex's favourite is the Kiox display: remove it when you park, take it with you, and pop it back on to unlock. Just remember the phone option relies on Bluetooth — if your phone battery dies, you won't be able to unlock the bike.
Lock & Alarm with ConnectModule (Optional)
The ConnectModule is an additional module installed down by the motor. It adds a satellite connection, GPS tracking and an on-bike alarm, unlocking the full Lock & Alarm features and theft alerts. Not all bikes are compatible — check under Settings > Components > Compatible Components. There's a subscription: you get 12 months free with the module when you buy it, then an ongoing cost after that. Check the Bosch website or Flow App for current pricing.
Battery Lock (Flow+ Feature)
With a Flow+ subscription, you can lock your battery, registering it to just your bike. If someone steals your battery and tries to use it in their own bike, it won't work.
Transport Mode (ConnectModule Required)
If you've got a ConnectModule, you'll see a Transport Mode option. When your bike is on the back of a car rack, flick Transport Mode to On to temporarily disable the motion alarm — no more screaming bike every time it shakes on the carrier. The app shows a reminder prompt on the home screen, and remember to turn it back off once you've unloaded.
Sharing Your eBike and Other Settings
Share eBike With Another Rider
If two people share a bike — say a couple sharing a cargo eBike — both just need a Flow App account. You can grant the second account permission to connect and to unlock the locks and alarm. Really handy for multi-rider households.
Software Updates
eBike updates arrive over the air, and you'll get a prompt on the home screen when one's available. You can install them at home yourself, and we'll also do it when we service your bike. It's worth checking every now and then — Bosch are always improving things and adding new features.
Wheel Circumference
If you've fitted a smaller or larger tyre, there's a range of adjustment to correct your speedometer. It's not a perfect science — even tyre pressure changes your rolling diameter. This also explains a common question: your Garmin may read a different distance to the bike computer, because the bike measures the wheel physically rolling, whereas GPS is a little less nuanced, especially over elevation changes.
Display Configuration (Kiox)
With a Kiox display you can change the order your pages appear and what information is on them. Add an extra screen or edit an existing one, choosing from options like riding time, average cadence, heart rate (if a sensor is paired), distance, calories, elevation, power and speed. Hit Save on Display to apply your changes — plenty of our customers run a custom dashboard.
Digital Service Book
The digital service book keeps a record of when your bike's been serviced, with dealer reports stored in the app. Let us know if you'd like this filled in — it requires your permission, since it puts information into your personal system.
Navigation and Range Control
Ride Screen
If you mount your phone in a grip on your bars, hit the ride button to flip the app into ride mode. It feeds all your bike data live — power mode, battery level, phone battery, time, speed, elevation, power, cadence and altitude. The most-used screen, though, is the mapping screen for navigation.
Planning a Route
Enter a destination or pick a saved address. You get three route types: Leisure (biased towards bike paths, fewer roads), Direct (the quickest route, which may include roads), and eMTB (designated trails — Alex notes that routing through Mount Coot-tha would pull up the eMTB trails in that area). Routes sync with Komoot, and the summary shows distance, estimated arrival time, and the battery percentage you'll arrive with — which updates dynamically with your mode (Turbo uses more, Eco uses less). You also get an elevation graph and a surface-type breakdown for the ride.
Range Control
Planning a really long trip? Turn on Range Control and set the battery percentage you want to arrive with. The app then limits motor output throughout the ride to make sure you keep that much charge in reserve — essential for rail-trail tours and longer Brisbane adventures.
Map Views
Choose from an eBike heat map, satellite view, dark map or trail map. A Flow+ subscription adds 3D mapping.
Troubleshooting — App Disconnected or eBike Won't Unlock?
If the app shows disconnected, or eBike Lock is stopping the bike starting, the quickest fix is to re-pair. Go to the settings cog > scroll down > Remove eBike > confirm, then tap Connect eBike and long-press the power button to pair again. No need to panic about the warnings — all your existing ride data is preserved, and your lock and alarm settings are retained on your account.

Yes. Every Gen 5 Bosch motor leaves the factory set to 85 Nm. Using the Max Torque parameter inside a custom riding mode, a Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor can be upgraded to 120 Nm, and a PX motor can be raised to 90 Nm. The app displays a warning — "High max torque. As a result, the wear of the drivetrain components can increase" — so keep in mind that more torque means faster chain and cassette wear. You can also turn torque down to build a more efficient touring mode or to get more of a workout yourself.
What riding modes are available in the Bosch Flow App?
The available modes are Eco, Tour, Tour+, Auto, Sport, eMTB and Turbo. You can have up to four active on the bike at any one time, and you swap them in and out using Edit List. Auto is a great feeling mode for commuting but uses more juice than Tour or Tour+. The "+" versions (like Tour+) offer higher support — a little more power that makes riding easier, at the cost of slightly more battery. Each mode can be customised individually for assistance, dynamic response, maximum speed and maximum torque.
How does eBike Lock work in the Bosch Flow App?
eBike Lock is a free security feature built into the Flow App. When enabled, the motor will not engage unless the bike sees an approved key — either your paired phone over Bluetooth or your Kiox display. You turn it on under the settings cog, then choose your unlock method: phone, Kiox display, or both. Alex’s personal preference is the Kiox display — simply remove it when you park and take it with you, and the bike locks; put it back on and it unlocks. One caveat with the phone option: it relies on Bluetooth, so if your phone battery dies you will not be able to unlock the bike.
What should I do if the Bosch Flow App shows my eBike as disconnected?
The quickest fix is to re-pair the bike. Open the settings cog, scroll down and tap Remove eBike, then confirm — you can safely ignore the warnings, as all of your existing ride data is preserved and your lock and alarm settings stay on your account. Then tap Connect eBike and run through the pairing process again, long-pressing the power button until it reconnects. This is also the fastest way to fix a bike that will not unlock while eBike Lock is enabled.
