What Is the Bosch Flow App?

The Bosch Flow App is the central control hub for Bosch Smart System eBikes, giving riders full access to key features and performance settings. Through the app, you can monitor battery range, track ride data, install software updates, manage security settings, use built-in navigation, and customise motor performance to suit your riding style.

It’s especially valuable for riders who want to fine-tune how their eBike feels—whether commuting through the city, touring long distances, tackling trails, or using a cargo eBike for everyday transport. The Bosch Flow App allows you to personalise your ride for maximum comfort, efficiency, and control.

How do You Pair Your Bosch eBike With the Flow App?

To connect your Bosch eBike:

  •  - Open the Bosch Flow App and log in.
  •  - Turn your eBike on.
  •  - Select Connect eBike.
  •  - Choose your control unit, such as the LED Remote.
  •  - Hold the power button until the LED flashes blue.
  •  - Allow the app permissions so GPS, ride data, and syncing work correctly.
  •  - Confirm pairing when prompted.

Once paired, the app will show your bike connection status, battery level, range estimate, mileage, and riding mode information.

How Do You Change Your Riding Modes?

One of the best features of the Bosch Flow App is the ability to customise your riding modes. You can choose up to four active riding modes at a time, depending on your bike and motor system.

Common Bosch riding modes include:

  •  - Eco
  •  - Tour
  •  - Tour+
  •  - Auto
  •  - Sport
  •  - eMTB
  •  - Turbo

Each mode feels different. For example, Auto is excellent for everyday riding and commuting, while Tour or Tour+ can be more efficient for longer rides.

How Do You You Change Your Torque to 120Nm on the Bosch Flow App?

Inside each custom riding mode, you can adjust several key settings.

Assistance

Assistance determines how much support the motor provides relative to your pedalling effort.

Increasing assistance makes riding easier and reduces the effort required—ideal for hills, headwinds, or heavy loads. Lowering assistance can extend battery range and deliver a more natural riding feel, making it perfect for fitness riding or longer trips.

Dynamic Response

Dynamic response controls how quickly the motor engages and delivers power when you start pedalling.

If your eBike feels too aggressive or “jumpy,” reducing the dynamic setting will smooth out the power delivery. Increasing it provides faster engagement and a more responsive, punchy ride—great for technical riding or stop-start city conditions.

Maximum Speed

The Flow App allows you to reduce the maximum assisted speed for individual riding modes.

While most riders keep this at the standard legal assistance limit, lowering it can create a more controlled and predictable setup—particularly useful for new riders or when riding in busy environments.

Maximum Torque

Maximum torque is one of the most impactful performance settings available on newer Bosch Smart System eBikes.

Compatible Bosch Gen 5 motors allow you to increase torque through the Flow App, delivering stronger acceleration and improved climbing ability. This is especially beneficial for steep terrain, cargo eBikes, or riders who want maximum power on demand.

For example:

Higher torque gives stronger hill climbing and acceleration, which is especially useful for eMTB riding, cargo bikes, steep climbs, and heavier loads.

However, Bosch also warns that higher maximum torque can increase drivetrain wear. Chains, cassettes, and other drivetrain parts may wear faster if you regularly use maximum power.

Torque vs Power: What’s the Difference?

Understanding the difference between torque and power is key to getting the most out of your Bosch Smart System eBike.

Torque refers to how strongly the motor pulls, especially when accelerating from a standstill or climbing steep hills. Higher torque delivers stronger initial push and makes it easier to tackle inclines, carry cargo, or ride in stop-start conditions.

Power, on the other hand, relates to how well the motor can sustain speed over time. It becomes more important when riding uphill for longer periods or maintaining a higher average speed on climbs and flat roads.

For example, if you want strong acceleration from a standing start or better hill-climbing ability, torque is the most important factor. If your goal is to maintain speed and efficiency over longer distances or gradual climbs, overall power output plays a bigger role.

Reset Your Riding Modes Anytime

If your custom settings don’t feel quite right, the Bosch Flow App allows you to easily reset each riding mode back to its original factory settings.

This gives you the freedom to experiment with different assistance levels, dynamic response, and torque settings without the risk of permanently changing how your eBike rides. It’s a simple way to fine-tune your setup until you find the perfect balance of power, comfort, and efficiency.

Bosch eBike Lock and Security Features

The Bosch Flow App includes useful security features for compatible Smart System eBikes.

eBike Lock

The standard eBike Lock feature is free to use. When enabled, it prevents motor support from working unless the bike recognises an approved key.

Unlock options can include:

  •  - Your phone via Bluetooth
  •  - A compatible Bosch display, such as a Kiox display
  •  - Both phone and display

Using a removable display as a key is a practical option because you can take it with you when parking the bike.

Lock & Alarm With ConnectModule

For more advanced security, compatible bikes can use the optional Bosch ConnectModule. This adds features such as:

  •  - GPS tracking
  •  - Motion alarm
  •  - Theft alerts
  •  - Alarm notifications
  •  - Location support if the bike is moved

The ConnectModule includes an initial subscription period, with ongoing costs after that. Riders should check current Bosch pricing through the Flow App or Bosch website.

Battery Lock

With Bosch Flow+ features, compatible systems may also allow battery locking, which helps prevent a stolen battery from being used on another bike.

Transport Mode

If your eBike is equipped with the Bosch ConnectModule, Transport Mode is an essential feature when carrying your bike on a car rack.

When activated, Transport Mode temporarily disables the motion alarm, preventing unnecessary alerts while the bike is in transit. This ensures the alarm system doesn’t trigger while driving. Once you’ve unloaded the bike, simply turn Transport Mode off to restore full security functionality.

Important Service Reminder

Before bringing your Bosch Smart System eBike in for servicing, it’s important to disable all security features within the Bosch Flow App.

Make sure eBike Lock and alarm functions are turned off prior to your visit. If the bike remains locked, technicians may not be able to properly test ride or diagnose it. An active alarm can also be triggered while the bike is on a work stand, which can interrupt servicing.

Share Your eBike With Another Rider

The Bosch Flow App also lets you share your eBike with another user. This is helpful for:

  •  - Family cargo bikes
  •  - Shared commuter bikes
  •  - Couples using the same eBike
  •  - Multi-rider households

The second rider will need their own Bosch Flow App account, and you can grant access through the app.

Keep Your Bosch eBike Updated

Software updates are another key benefit of the Bosch Flow App. Bosch regularly improves features, performance, and compatibility through updates.

You can check for available updates through the app, and your Bosch dealer can also check and update the system during servicing.

Display and Dashboard Customisation

If your eBike has a Bosch display, such as a Kiox display, you can customise what appears on the screen.

Depending on your setup, you may be able to display:

  •  - Speed
  •  - Cadence
  •  - Battery level
  •  - Distance
  •  - Elevation
  •  - Power
  •  - Heart rate
  •  - Calories
  •  - Ride time

This lets you create a dashboard that suits your riding style.

Navigation and Route Planning

The Flow App can also serve as a ride display and navigation tool when your phone is securely mounted on the bike.

You can plan routes using different options, including:

  •  - Leisure routes for bike paths and relaxed riding
  •  - Direct routes for faster travel
  •  - eMTB routes for trail-focused riding

The app can also show estimated arrival time, ride distance, expected battery remaining, elevation, and surface type.

Range Control for Longer Rides

Range Control is a powerful feature in the Bosch Flow App designed for longer rides and better battery management. It allows you to set a target battery percentage you’d like to have remaining at the end of your journey.

Once set, the system intelligently adjusts motor support throughout your ride to help conserve energy and ensure you reach your destination with the desired battery level. This is particularly useful for touring, rail trail riding, and longer weekend adventures where range planning is essential.

Troubleshooting: What to Do If Your Bosch Flow App Disconnects

If your Bosch Flow App shows the bike as disconnected, or the bike does not unlock properly, the quickest fix is usually to remove and reconnect the eBike.

To reconnect:

  1. Open the Flow App settings.
  2. Scroll down and select Remove eBike.
  3. Confirm the removal.
    Select Connect eBike again.
  4. Repeat the pairing process.

Your previous ride data should remain available once the bike is reconnected.

Final Thoughts

The Bosch Flow App is a powerful tool for unlocking the full potential of your Bosch Smart System eBike. From custom riding modes and increased torque settings to navigation, software updates, and advanced security features, it gives riders complete control over how their eBike performs and protects itself.

For Brisbane eBike riders, these features are especially valuable across a wide range of use cases—daily commuting, tackling steep hills, carrying cargo, long-distance touring, and weekend rail trail rides. By setting up the Flow App correctly, you can fine-tune your bike for more power, improved range, and enhanced security—tailored to how and where you ride.
