Front loader cargo e-bikes — also called box bikes — carry your children, dog or cargo in a box in front of you, low between the wheels. That low centre of gravity keeps the bike stable, and your passengers are where you can see them and talk to them. At Electric Bikes Brisbane we have been riding and servicing front loaders since 2014, and every front loader we sell is a Riese & Müller, Germany’s benchmark in cargo bike engineering.
Which Front Loader Is Right for You?
Riese & Müller Load5 75 — The Most Room
The biggest box in our range, for up to three children up to the age of seven, or larger cargo. It is the one families choose when they want the extra room. Like the Load5 60, it has full suspension and the Bosch Cargo Line motor, and it is 264.5cm long.
Riese & Müller Load5 60 — Nimble and Adventurous
Carries up to two children up to age seven and is more nimble to ride, which makes it the better front loader for adventurous riding. Nick and Sam bought Load 60s to ride South Australia’s 1,000km Mawson Trail with all their camping gear. When COVID stopped the trip, they became everyday car replacements around Samford Valley — and Sam has even taken hers into Ironbark with the barbecue gear on board. At 248cm, it is a little shorter than the 75.
Riese & Müller Transporter2 65 — Practical and Economical
The more economical way into a Riese & Müller front loader, rated to 220kg in total, with a 65cm box. It has a side door that makes loading kids and shopping much easier — a practical feature we really love.
Riese & Müller Carrie2 — The Compact Front Loader
At 209cm long with 20-inch wheels, the Carrie2 is close to the size of a normal bike. If you struggle to fit a full-size cargo bike in your garage, or your commute includes tight spots like railway station lifts, it is the front loader to choose. It carries up to two children up to age seven, with up to 80kg in the box.

Frequently Asked Questions
Load5 60 or Load5 75 — which should I buy?
Choose the Load5 75 if you have, or plan to have, three young children, or you regularly carry bulky loads — the extra box space is noticeable. Choose the Load5 60 if you carry one or two children and want a more nimble bike that is easier to ride on adventurous routes and a little easier to park. Both share the same suspension, motor and gearing options.
Will a front loader fit in my garage or on my commute?
Measure first. The Load5 75 is 264.5cm long and the Load5 60 is 248cm, so they need a long space and a wide gate. The Carrie2 is 209cm — close to a normal bike — which is why we recommend it for smaller garages, apartment storage and commutes that include railway station lifts.
Can I carry a baby in a front loader?
On the Load5, yes, with the right setup. Riese & Müller offers an infant car seat bracket through its dealers, and we have fitted a custom infant-capsule setup on a Load 75. Talk to us about your child’s age and the capsule you use, and we will set the bike up correctly.
