FAQs
Riese & Müller cargo e-bikes are the premium way to replace the second car in Brisbane — front-loaders and longtails built in Germany to carry children, dogs, shopping and gear every day for years. At Electric Bikes Brisbane we have sold, ridden and serviced Riese & Müller since 2014, and Nick and Sam have owned Riese & Müller Load 60 cargo bikes themselves. This page brings together every Riese & Müller cargo bike we carry, so you can compare the two styles side by side.
Front Loader or Longtail? Choosing a Riese & Müller Cargo Bike
A front loader puts the children or cargo in a box in front of you, low between the wheels, where you can see and talk to them. A longtail carries them behind you on an extended rear rack, so the bike rides and parks more like a normal bicycle. Both are excellent — the right one depends on what you carry, where you store it and how you like to ride.
Riese & Müller Front Loaders
- Load5 75: the biggest box, for up to three children up to age seven, or larger cargo. The choice for families who want the extra room.
- Load5 60: more nimble to ride and better for adventurous riding — ours carried all our camping gear when we planned to ride South Australia’s 1,000km Mawson Trail.
- Transporter2 65: the more economical front loader, rated to 220kg, with a practical side door we love.
- Carrie2: compact at 209cm long — the front loader for smaller garages and commutes with tight spots such as railway station lifts.
Compare them in detail on our front loader cargo e-bikes page.
Riese & Müller Longtails
- Multitinker2: a very urban family utility bike. Its 20-inch wheels make it easier to manage for less confident riders.
- Multicharger3: the more versatile family carrier that handles like a full-size bike, and a favourite for touring and camping thanks to its long rear rack, rated to 65kg.

Owning a Riese & Müller Cargo Bike in Brisbane
A cargo bike works harder than any other bike we sell. Carrying children in particular puts real stress on the bike — kids are not careful passengers — and the owners who service regularly have far fewer problems over the long term. The most common workshop jobs we see on Riese & Müller cargo bikes are punctures and brake replacements. As a Bosch Accredited Service Centre, our Milton workshop handles the Bosch Cargo Line and Performance Line systems, Enviolo and Rohloff hubs, belt drives and child-seat setups these bikes use — including a custom infant-capsule setup on a Load 75.
Brisbane families use them for everything: Rachel and Stuart replaced the car for school and kindy runs with a Load 60 Vario (read Electric Cargo Bike Life: A Tale of Two Families), and Andrew bought a Load 60 instead of a second car (read Our Load 60 Is Our Second Car). Frequently Asked Questions
Which Riese & Müller cargo bike is right for my family?
Start with what you carry. For up to three young children or big loads, the Load5 75. For one or two children and a more agile, adventurous ride, the Load5 60. For front-loader practicality at a lower price, the Transporter2 65. If storage or your route is tight, the compact Carrie2. If you would rather ride something that feels like a normal bike, choose a longtail: the Multitinker2 for city family transport, or the Multicharger3 if you also want to tour and camp. Then test ride your shortlist with the load you actually carry.
How long does a configured Riese & Müller cargo bike take to arrive?
Currently around three to four months, because shipping from Germany is taking the long way round to avoid the Middle East. If you need a bike sooner, ask about our in-store and fixed-spec Family models, or the 2026 specials. We will confirm the likely delivery time before you order.
How do I keep a Riese & Müller cargo bike reliable with kids on board?
Three habits make the biggest difference. Service it regularly — our regularly serviced customers have far fewer issues. Check the tyre pressures once a week, because heavy loads and low pressures are what cause most punctures. And carry an emergency tyre sealant when you ride, so a puncture does not strand you with the kids aboard. See our puncture protection range.
Is a Riese & Müller cargo bike worth the extra over a cheaper cargo bike?
For daily family use, usually yes. You are paying for engineering that stays stable with children aboard, suspension on the Load5, belt drives and hub gears that need less maintenance, and components designed to carry heavy loads for years. If a cheaper cargo bike suits your needs, our full cargo range includes other options, and we will tell you honestly which is the better buy.
