FAQs
Riese & Müller dual-suspension e-bikes are for riders who want comfort and stability whatever the surface — corrugated gravel roads, potholed back roads, tree roots on a bush track or simply Brisbane’s rougher bike paths. Electric Bikes Brisbane opened in 2013, we imported our first Riese & Müller in 2014, and we are an official Riese & Müller Experience Store and Bosch Accredited Service Centre. The first thing customers notice on a test ride is how comfortable and smooth these bikes are, and how easy they are to ride, even though full suspension makes them a little heavier.
Why Dual Suspension?
As Sam puts it, dual suspension is about two things: comfort, no matter what you are riding, and stability, particularly when it gets rough. On a tour you are never guaranteed smooth trails. Gravel roads can be corrugated and back roads can be full of potholes, and that is where front and rear suspension comes into its own. If you have back or neck issues, it can be the difference between enjoying a ride and seizing up afterwards when the route turns out bumpier than expected.
Riese & Müller Control Technology, Explained
The Delite5, Homage5 and Superdelite5 share Riese & Müller’s Control Technology: a Fox AWL 34 air fork with 120mm of travel, a rear swing arm with a Fox Float Rhythm shock and 110mm of travel, and a co-sprung luggage carrier. Co-sprung means the rear rack is mounted to the suspended part of the bike, so your bags are cushioned by the suspension too, rather than bouncing on the rear wheel. Each also has an X-Fusion Manic dropper post (125mm, or 100mm on the smallest frame), so you can drop the saddle at a stop or on a steep descent.
The Riese & Müller Dual-Suspension Range
Riese & Müller Homage5 — Full Suspension With a Low Step-Through
A rare combination: full suspension and a low step-through frame, so getting on and off is easy even with a loaded rack. Sam commuted 30km each way to our Milton store on a Homage, over Settlement Road and through the Bardon hills. Helen, a customer since our first weeks in 2014, has chosen a Homage5 Rohloff for her next chapter of bush-track riding.
Riese & Müller Delite5 — Full Suspension With a Crossbar
The same suspension and ride ambition as the Homage5, with a sportier crossbar frame. Our Andrew Hopper has toured more than 550km through the Victorian High Country on an earlier Delite, carrying his camping gear.
Riese & Müller Superdelite5 — Full Suspension, Double the Battery
The Delite5’s suspension with a 1,200Wh Bosch DualBattery as standard, built for riders who want the absolute best for long-distance touring.
Riese & Müller Load5 60 and Load5 75 — Full-Suspension Cargo Bikes
Dual suspension on a front-loader cargo bike keeps children and cargo comfortable in the box as well as the rider. The Load5 75 carries up to three children up to age seven; the Load5 60 is more nimble and carries two. Compare them on our front loader cargo e-bikes page.
Setup and Ownership
When you buy a dual-suspension Riese & Müller from us, we set up the suspension for your weight and your load, whether that is a commute bag or full touring panniers. After that, ownership is simple: check and maintain the air pressures in the fork and shock, and plan for a fork service further down the track. Our Milton workshop, a Bosch Accredited Service Centre, can check the suspension at your regular service.
These are adventure and touring bikes, not mountain bikes. If you are after technical singletrack, see our electric mountain bikes. If you are choosing a Riese & Müller for a big trip, see our Riese & Müller touring and adventure e-bikes. EBB customers can also join our Owners Club rides, such as Kosciuszko to the Sea: 309km over five days, with 4,466m of climbing.
Dual-Suspension Riese & Müller: Your Questions
Will dual suspension help if I have a sore back or neck?
It can make a real difference. Front and rear suspension take the sting out of bumps, potholes and corrugations before they reach your back, neck and hands, so a ride that turns out rougher than expected doesn’t leave you seizing up afterwards. Bring the route you usually ride and we will set the suspension up to suit you on the test ride.
Are they harder to ride because they are heavier?
Not in our experience. Full suspension adds some weight — Riese & Müller lists the Delite5 from 31.6kg and the Homage5 from 32.3kg — but one of the first things customers notice on a test ride is how easy they are to ride. The Bosch Performance Line CX motor carries the weight on climbs, and the dropper post makes stopping and starting easy. The weight is most noticeable when lifting the bike onto a car rack.
How much maintenance does the suspension need?
Not much. We set the suspension up for you at handover; after that, keep an eye on the air pressures and plan for a fork service later on. We can check both when the bike comes in for its regular service.
Can I ride a dual-suspension Riese & Müller on mountain bike trails?
They are built for adventure riding rather than mountain biking. They are at home on fire roads, gravel, rail trails and rough back roads, such as Brisbane State Forest’s gravel climbs. For dedicated mountain bike trails, an electric mountain bike is the better tool.
