Riese & Müller touring e-bikes are built for riders who want to go a long way in comfort — a day on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, a gravel loop through Brisbane State Forest, or a week of self-supported touring with panniers. Electric Bikes Brisbane opened in 2013, we imported our first Riese & Müller in 2014, and today we are an official Riese & Müller Experience Store. Every rider who chooses a bike from this collection shares one thing: they value premium build quality, the best componentry and accessories, and a ride that still feels good at the end of a long day.

More Than a Rail Trail Bike

Every bike here makes light work of a rail trail, but that undersells them. Riese & Müller designs these bikes for adventure riding: Bosch Performance Line CX motors (Performance Line PX on the Core models), 800Wh batteries on most models with room for a Bosch PowerMore 250 range extender, a 27kg-rated rear rack and a 160kg total weight rating for rider, bike and luggage. As Sam puts it, once a Riese & Müller is properly equipped you can take it on pretty much any trail except dedicated mountain bike trails — they are built for adventure riding, not mountain biking.

Our team and customers ride them on the smooth paths around Boondall Wetlands, the steep, rough gravel of Brisbane State Forest, the Northern Rivers Rail Trail out of Murwillumbah and in Far North Queensland, where heat, humidity and rain show why a belt drive is so low-maintenance. One customer rode more than 1,000km from the southern NSW border to the Queensland border on back roads and gravel.

Which Riese & Müller Touring Bike Suits You?

Riese & Müller Charger5 — The Sporty Crossbar Tourer

For riders who prefer a sportier, more dynamic ride feel and the crossbar look, whether they commute midweek or explore on weekends. It comes in diamond and Mixte frames with a 100mm suspension fork, and the 2027 Charger5 Vario models we stock come with the Offroad kit and Enviolo belt drive.

Riese & Müller Nevo5 — The Step-Through Charger

The step-through version of the Charger5, for riders who want easy on and off and a bike that stays stable on a wide variety of terrain, no matter what. Choose Enviolo gearing with a belt drive, or the Nevo5 Automatic, which changes gear for you.

Riese & Müller Homage5 — The Dual-Suspension Step-Through Explorer

For explorers who want easy on and off — usually longer-distance riders who head off the beaten track when the urge takes them. It has 120mm of front and 110mm of rear suspension, a dropper post, and Enviolo or Rohloff gearing with a belt drive. Sam commuted 30km each way to Milton on a Homage, over Settlement Road and the Bardon hills, and took it on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Helen, one of our first customers in 2014, is now on her third Riese & Müller: a Homage5 Rohloff with an 800Wh battery and a 250Wh range extender.

Riese & Müller Delite5 — The Sporty Dual-Suspension Adventurer

The same ride ambition as Homage riders, with the sportier crossbar look. Our own Andrew Hopper has toured on a Delite for eight days and about 550km through the Victorian High Country on the Murray to Mountains and High Country rail trails, and for 400km around the Orange region, carrying his camping gear.

Riese & Müller Superdelite5 — The Ultimate Tourer

For the serious rider, or former serious rider, who wants the absolute best and plans long-distance touring. It comes with a 1,200Wh Bosch DualBattery as standard, so no range extender is needed, plus dual suspension and a Rohloff 14-speed hub. The model we stock also has Bosch ABS.

How We Set Up a Riese & Müller for Touring

These are the setups we fit most often for touring customers:

  • Range extender: a Bosch PowerMore 250 on every model except the Superdelite5, which already has two batteries.
  • Offroad kit and tough touring tyres: Schwalbe Johnny Watts 365 or Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour, depending on the terrain.
  • Sealant in the tyres where the route calls for it — see our puncture protection range.
  • Luggage: bags and panniers are by far the most popular choice for our touring customers, and we will help you set them up for your trip.
  • A pre-tour service one to two months before you leave, at our Bosch Accredited Service Centre in Milton.

Ride With Other Owners

EBB customers can join our Owners Club rides. Kosciuszko to the Sea covered 309km over five days, from the summit of Mt Kosciuszko to Tathra, with 4,466m of climbing. Orange 360 is a six-day, roughly 376km tour through regional NSW.

Choosing a Riese & Müller Touring E-Bike: Your Questions

Should I choose the Charger5 or the Nevo5?

They are the same family underneath, so the choice comes down to how you like to get on and how you like the bike to feel. Choose the Charger5 if you like a sportier, more dynamic ride and the crossbar look. Choose the Nevo5 if easy on and off matters — at a café stop, a trail gate or with a loaded rear rack — and you want a bike that feels stable on any surface. Ride both back to back at Milton; most people know within ten minutes.

Do I need dual suspension, or is a hardtail enough?

If your touring is mostly rail trails, quiet roads and well-formed gravel, the Charger5 or Nevo5, with a suspension fork and wide 27.5-inch tyres, is comfortable and lighter. If you like to leave the formed trail when the urge takes you, ride long days over corrugations and rough fire trails, or simply want the most comfort, the dual-suspension Homage5 (step-through) and Delite5 (crossbar) are worth the step up.

Superdelite5, or a Delite5 with a range extender?

A Delite5 with its 800Wh battery and a 250Wh range extender gives you 1,050Wh, and you can leave the extender at home on shorter rides. The Superdelite5 carries 1,200Wh full-time and is built for riders who want the absolute best and plan serious long-distance touring. The trade-off is weight: Riese & Müller lists the Delite5 touring from 31.6kg and the Superdelite5 from 36.2kg.

Is a Riese & Müller worth the money for touring?

For riders who tour often, we think so. Helen has ridden Riese & Müller bikes for 12 years and says her bikes “just go”. Belt drives and hub gears cut maintenance on long trips, and the integrated racks, lights and locks are premium parts, not add-ons. The best test is a long test ride on the kind of terrain you plan to tour.
