Orbea Expands Its Urban Line-Up with the New Carpe E-Bike Series
Orbea, the Spanish manufacturer best known for its innovation and high-performance bikes, has expanded its portfolio of urban-focused electric bikes with its new Carpe range.
We welcome the Carpe. A lightweight electric bicycle that looks like a bicycle but with superpowers!
Designed for commuters and everyday riders, the Carpe models combine lightweight construction (17-20kg), some very cool innovative design and technology, with stylish and practical design features. Best of all, it is built around a powerful motor system which will make daily travel in a city as hilly as Brisbane that much easier.Â
With clean styling, built-in lighting, and modular cargo options, the new series is intended to provide a simple yet capable electric bike solution for navigating city streets and storing bikes in smaller living spaces.Â
Â
Designed for Practical Urban Mobility

Â
The Carpe models sit within Orbea’s Urban and Active platform, a category developed specifically for city riding and daily transport. These bikes integrate features that prioritise convenience, visibility and versatility.
Key elements include:
- Adjustable cockpit setup for comfortable positioning
- Modular front and rear carrying solutions
- Integrated lighting for improved visibility in urban traffic, including functionality that automatically activates as daylight fades
Powering the range is the strong Shimano EP6 mid-drive motor, capable of delivering up to 85Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a high density 420 Wh battery integrated into the down tube, giving the bike a clean, streamlined look while maintaining practical range for commuting. Riders who require additional range can add an optional 252 Wh range extender.
Â
Frame Design Focused on Comfort

Â
The Carpe uses a unisex frame built around Orbea’s Twin Glide Flex design, which positions the seat tube lower in the frame. This configuration creates a longer exposed section of tubing that can flex slightly to absorb road vibrations and bumps commonly encountered in city riding. A similar concept as the award-winning Orbea Diem range.Â
Additional comfort features include:
- Carbon fork to help reduce road shock
- Urban-focused geometry for stable yet agile handling
- Lower unisex frame design for easy mounting and dismounting and handling in dense traffic
This all aims to provide a smooth, comfortable and controlled ride through busy streets and varied city surfaces.
Â
Smart Storage and Urban-Friendly Details

Â
Orbea has also considered how the bike functions when not being ridden. As well as being light and therefore easy to handle, several clever design elements have been incorporated to make storage easier in apartments or tight spaces.
The handlebars can rotate 90 degrees, significantly reducing the bike’s width, while the pedals fold flat to make the bike easier to store in hallways, basements or bike storage rooms. These features come as standard on the top model, the Carpe 10, and can be added as an extra to the other models when you order from Orbea.
Additional practical features include:
- A hidden compartment inside the frame is designed to hold a Bluetooth tracking device to help locate the bike if needed.
- MIK-compatible rear rack with option to change to HD MIK (available for Carpe 20 and Carpe 10 only).
- Optional frame locks for added security

Three Orbea Carpe Models
The Carpe e-bike range consists of three models, each offering different drivetrain setups and levels of equipment.
All three Carpe models are built around the Shimano EP600 motor (85 Nm), an integrated 420 Wh battery, and an Orbea carbon fork.Â
Â
Carpe 10
This is the flagship model. It has all the extra included such as folding pedals, a foldable stem, Abus framelock and an integrated rear rack, and has the electronic Shimano Nexus Inter-5 Di2 internal hub gear system paired with a Gates CDX belt drive for near-zero maintenance.
Weight: approx. 20.9 kg. (Size M)
Price: $7,999

Â
Carpe 20
The mid-range version uses a Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain. It comes equipped with mudguards, lighting and a rear rack, making it well-suited for everyday commuting.

Â
Carpe 25
The entry-level model is a more purist model with a lean, sporty setup. It is the Carpe 20 without the mudguards, rear rack and kickstand to keep weight lower and its look clean and sleek.

Â
A Shift Toward Mid-Drive Urban E-Bikes?

The introduction of the Carpe adds another mid-motor model to Orbea’s urban lineup, joining bikes such as the Diem, Muga, Kemen Tour and Kemen Adventure. Interestingly, the previously popular Vibe series, known for its lightweight hub-motor design, is no longer prominently featured in Orbea’s current urban overview.
This could suggest that Orbea is gradually moving away from hub-motor urban bikes and placing greater emphasis on mid-drive systems, which provide stronger torque and improved performance in varied terrain.
