FAQs
Part of our full Orbea electric bike range — see the main collection for the complete brand overview, eMTB, adventure touring, and commuter categories.
Finding a performance road or gravel ebike that genuinely rides like a serious bike — not a motorised approximation of one — is harder than it sounds. The Orbea Denna does though. At Electric Bikes Brisbane, we’ve been selling Orbea’s gravel and road e-bikes since 2017, and the Denna is one of the most talked-about bikes in our store. Tom, one of our sales specialists who has represented Australia in road cycling at the World Championships, calls it the fastest bike in the building — and he means it. As a Platinum Orbea dealer, we can custom order the full Denna and Gain range, including models not listed on our website, and our workshop is fully accredited for the Shimano motor systems that power them.
Two Bikes. One Philosophy. Different Roads.
Orbea entered the performance electric road and gravel category in 2017 with the Gain, and the Denna followed as a purpose-built gravel platform. Both share Orbea’s OMR carbon frame construction, their own Oquo wheel brand, and a design philosophy that refuses to let a motor compromise the ride. What separates them is their intent:
- • Orbea Denna — Electric Gravel Bike: Built for the full spectrum of gravel riding — mixed terrain, dirt roads, proper climbing, mudguard mounts, bikepacking compatibility, 50mm tyre clearance. Powered by the Shimano EP8 RS Gen2 RC motor, with Orbea’s own RS (Rider Synergy) firmware tuned specifically to feel like an extension of your own effort, not a push from behind. Gravel mode delivers up to 42Nm; Gravel+ up to 56Nm. The 420Wh integrated battery is claimed to cover 3,000–3,500m of climbing on Eco — real-world testing has returned around 145km on a flat-to-rolling Eco ride.
- • Orbea Gain — Electric Road Bike: A pure road bike that happens to have a motor. The Mahle X20 rear hub motor is so quietly and smoothly integrated that non-cyclists have ridden the Gain without knowing it was electric. Pure road geometry, up to 35mm tyre clearance, 350Wh Mahle iX350 battery, claimed up to 4,000m climbing. From around 11.5kg on the lightest carbon models — significantly lighter than most mid-drive electric bikes.
The Orbea Denna — In More Detail
The Denna is the centrepiece of this collection. It is available from entry-level alloy (H50, Shimano EP600 RS, $7,799) through to full-carbon flagship models with SRAM Red XPLR AXS 13-speed or Shimano Dura-Ace / XTR Di2 electronic drivetrains (M10i, M11E, $17,499). The carbon models all use Orbea’s OMR carbon frame and fork, with engineered Frame Flex zones that absorb road and trail vibration without added suspension weight — a design philosophy that makes the Denna genuinely comfortable on long rides as well as fast on technical ones.
The Shimano EP8 RS Gen2 RC motor at the heart of the mid-range and flagship models is one of the most sophisticated gravel motor systems available. Orbea worked with Shimano on a custom “RS” (Rider Synergy) firmware and “RC” (Road Control) tuning that makes the motor feel natural — it reads your effort and responds proportionally rather than delivering a fixed push. It runs three assist levels (Eco, Trail, Boost), with 36% less pedalling resistance than the previous generation when the motor is off. The optional 210Wh range extender (under 1kg, fits a standard bottle cage) can effectively double your ride in mixed terrain.
Across the range, drivetrain options include SRAM Red XPLR AXS 13-speed (M11E), Shimano Dura-Ace / XTR Di2 (M10i), Shimano XT Di2 (M20i), SRAM Rival XPLR eTAP AXS (M31E), Shimano GRX 820 and 610 (M30, M20), and Shimano CUES (H50). Carbon models use Orbea’s Oquo carbon wheels, made near their factory in the Basque Country. Tyre clearance runs to 50mm with 45mm Vittoria Terreno Dry gravel tyres standard on mid-range and above.
Who Rides the Orbea Denna?
We asked Alex, one of our specialists who rides road and mountain bikes at a high level, what he thinks of the Denna. His answer cuts to the heart of it: the modern geometry makes it quick and stable, it’s still comfortable on those really long rides, and he appreciates the thought that has gone into Orbea’s tune on the Shimano motor — making it adaptable to different riders and completely different ride situations. Tom’s take is more direct: it’s very fast, even past the power cutout, and a very strong climber thanks to the pedalling platform and motor assist.
The Denna’s customer base consistently turns out to be experienced road cyclists who love high-end bikes and want something special that genuinely enthuses them about continuing to ride. These are not people who gave up on cycling and want a motor to do the work — they are people who want to ride further, faster, and more often, and who want a bike that reflects their standards. The Denna delivers exactly that.
Riding Gravel and Road E-Bikes Around Brisbane and SE QLD
SE QLD is genuinely excellent gravel and road riding country, and the Denna is built for exactly this kind of terrain. Sam’s recommended route for this bike: out through Samford Valley to Dayboro, through Lacey’s Creek and then up along Range Road through D’Aguilar National Park to the Gantry, back via Mt Mee to Dayboro and home to Samford. It is a perfect Denna ride — sealed road, gravel, and real climbing mixed together in a loop that covers terrain the Denna handles with confidence.
Further out, the country roads around Crows Nest are a favourite for longer days, and Tenterfield has a growing network of gravel trails worth the drive for a dedicated riding weekend. For a more accessible first ride with the Denna, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail — 161km of mostly flat rail trail through the Brisbane Valley — is a natural choice. The Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious loop in the D’Aguilar Range is another: 111km of sweeping descents and challenging climbs with café stops at Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious Village.
This is a large range and not all Denna models are currently listed on our website. As a Platinum Orbea dealer, we can custom order any Denna or Gain model — including spec levels not listed online — with factory-fresh delivery to our Milton store. New Denna and Gain test models are arriving in 2027.
Why Brisbane Riders Choose Electric Bikes Brisbane for Gravel and Road E-Bikes
- • Platinum Orbea dealer with Shimano accreditation: Our Milton workshop is accredited for Shimano motor systems — including the EP8 RS Gen2 RC that powers the Denna. A performance-inspired gravel or road e-bike requires genuine technical knowledge to service, repair, and maintain. That’s exactly what we provide.
- • We ride what we sell: Tom (represented Australia at road cycling World Championships) and Alex (road cyclist and mountain biker) have both ridden and loved the Denna. Sam has ridden gravel routes across SE QLD on Orbea bikes, including the Samford–Dayboro–D’Aguilar loop, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, and further afield to Crows Nest and Tenterfield.
- • Custom order the full range: As a Platinum Orbea dealer, we can order any Denna or Gain model built to your spec — and through Orbea’s MyO program, that includes custom colour, finish, and component selection. No other brand offers this depth of personalisation.
- • Orbea lifetime frame warranty: All Orbea carbon and alloy frames carry a lifetime warranty — one of the very few brands that stand behind their frames for life.
- • Selling Orbea gravel e-bikes since 2017: We have been riding and selling the Denna and Gain since Orbea entered the electric road and gravel category, and we know the range better than anyone in SE QLD.
Frequently Asked Questions About Orbea Gravel and Road E-Bikes
What is the difference between the Orbea Denna and the Orbea Gain?
The Orbea Denna is a purpose-built electric gravel bike — longer wheelbase, lower bottom bracket, up to 50mm tyre clearance, bikepacking mounts, and a mid-drive Shimano EP8 RS Gen2 motor with up to 85Nm of torque. It is designed for mixed terrain, real climbing, and multi-surface riding. The Orbea Gain is a pure electric road bike with a near-invisible Mahle X20 rear hub motor (55Nm), pure road geometry, up to 35mm tyre clearance, and a focus on a completely natural road bike feel. From around 11.5kg, the Gain is significantly lighter than most electric bikes. If you ride mostly on sealed roads and want the most natural road bike experience with minimal motor intrusion, the Gain is the choice. If you ride gravel, mixed terrain, or want more motor assistance for serious climbs, the Denna is the bike.
How far can I ride on one charge on the Orbea Denna?
The Denna’s 420Wh integrated battery is claimed by Orbea to cover 3,000–3,500m of climbing on Eco mode. Real-world testing has returned around 145km (approximately 90 miles) on a flat-to-rolling Eco ride in standard Gravel mode. SE QLD routes with significant climbing — like the D’Aguilar Range loop out of Samford — will use more battery than flat rail trails, but the optional 210Wh range extender (under 1kg, fits a standard bottle cage position) can effectively double your range. The Gain’s 350Wh Mahle iX350 battery is claimed to cover up to 4,000m of climbing, with real-world rides reaching 150km.
Is the Orbea Denna good for climbing?
Yes — it is exceptionally capable on climbs. Tom, one of our staff who has represented Australia in road cycling at the World Championships, describes it as “a very strong climber thanks to the pedalling platform and motor assist.” The Shimano EP8 RS Gen2 motor delivers up to 85Nm of torque in Boost mode, and the RS (Rider Synergy) firmware is tuned to feel like an amplification of your own effort — particularly effective on sustained climbs where a natural pedalling rhythm matters. In Gravel+ mode the motor delivers up to 56Nm, which is ample for SE QLD’s toughest road climbs.
Can I custom-order an Orbea Denna or Gain that isn’t listed on your website?
Yes. As a Platinum Orbea dealer, Electric Bikes Brisbane can custom order any Denna or Gain model from the full Orbea range — including spec levels not currently listed on our website. If you have a specific model, colour, drivetrain configuration, or component spec in mind, contact us and we will work with Orbea to get it built. Orbea’s MyO program also allows full custom colour, finish, and component selection on eligible models. New Denna and Gain test models are arriving in early 2027 — contact us to register your interest.
What makes the Orbea Denna motor different from a standard electric bike motor?
The Denna uses Shimano’s EP8 RS Gen2 RC motor with Orbea’s own “RS” (Rider Synergy) firmware and “RC” (Road Control) tuning — developed specifically for road and gravel riding. Unlike standard e-bike motors tuned for maximum power, the RS system is calibrated to feel proportional and natural: it responds to your cadence and effort rather than delivering a fixed push. It also has 36% less pedalling resistance than the previous generation when the motor is off — meaning when you ride past the 25km/h cutout on a descent or fast road section, it doesn’t drag. Alex, one of our specialists who rides at a high level on both road and mountain bikes, specifically called out Orbea’s motor tuning as one of the things that makes the Denna stand apart — “so adaptable to different riders and different ride situations.”
How much do Orbea gravel e-bikes cost in Brisbane?
The Orbea Denna range currently starts from $7,799 (Denna H50, alloy frame, Shimano EP600 RS) and extends to $17,499 for the carbon flagship models (Denna M10i with Shimano Dura-Ace / XTR Di2, and Denna M11E with SRAM Red XPLR AXS 13-speed). Mid-range carbon models include the Denna M30 Carbon ($9,999), M31E Carbon ($10,499 ex-display), M20 Carbon ($10,899), and M20i Carbon ($13,499). The Orbea Gain is custom order — contact us for pricing on specific models. All prices include GST. Finance options are available.
