How Do You Choose the Best Electric Bikes? Our Criteria

Electric Bikes Brisbane is Australia’s leading ebike specialist since 2013.

We have a passionate and knowledgeable team who live and breathe electric bikes. We are also fortunate that many of our team members have been with us for nearly 10 years. Each of us has an ebike (ok, maybe more) in our garage and we know what works when it comes to electric bikes in Australia!

We often get asked what we think the best electric bike is. So, for 2026, we asked the real ebike experts: our fantastic team who service, support and talk to customers about them every day and have been doing so for many years.

EBB Staff Christmas Ride | Electric Bikes Brisbane

We asked each member of the EBB team to nominate what they believe are the best three (3) ebikes in our range for 2026.

It was a tough ask as 2026 may just be the best ebike season yet. Lots of new technology, interesting design, and exciting challenger brands have entered the market. We are spoiled for choice.  Every brand has released excellent new ebikes this year and there are some genuinely standout models available.

There was plenty of debate as we have a broad mix of perspectives. Our sales team focuses on matching riders to the right ebike for their needs, while our workshop team builds, services, and repairs ebikes every day.

When it all boiled down, this is the criteria that guided our EBB team selections:

    • • Does it represent excellent value for money or offer something genuinely unique in its design and technology?
    • • Does it make you smile every time you ride it and encourage you to ride more often?
    • • Will it last and still hold value down the track?
    • • If something goes wrong, can it be serviced and repaired relatively easily?

The Best E-Bikes for 2026: The Top 5 EBB Staff Picks

We asked our team to each nominate three 2026 electric bikes they considered the best for 2026. We tallied up the ebikes nominated and these are the top five (5), all ebikes that received multiple nominations from our team.

In our view, these are some of the best electric bikes currently available in Australia.

    #1. ADO Air 20 Ultra 2026 – Lightweight Belt Drive Folding E-Bike

The ADO Air 20 Ultra 2026 model was at the top of the list.

This lightweight, low-maintenance folding ebike is packed with excellent features - a belt drive and auto transmission, inbuilt lights, front suspension and more.

It is portable, super easy to use and easy to maintain which makes it particularly popular with tourers and caravanners, and also beginners, plus it is excellent value for money.

Always a good ebike, the 2026 updates include 20% more motor power and a MIK rear rack, making it even more practical and versatile.

#2. Orbea Muga 20 – Dual Suspension SUV Adventure Tourer and Commuter

The Orbea Muga e-bike is a highly innovative and unique ebike. It is a 120mm dual-suspension touring and SUV ebike that unusually runs on a mullet wheelset (29" front wheel, 27.5" rear), with a full 4-bar linkage and top performing componentry. It is a sensational ride plus it is a great looking bike!

It has the handling prowess of other famous bikes in the Orbea stable like the Orbea Wild eMTB and it is especially unusual in that it is fully equipped for touring and commuting duties, featuring Orbea's innovative lighting system and a 30kg-rated MIK-compatible rear rack.

As a touring ebike we can say from experience it handles rough terrain with ease. Long stretches of corrugated roads and narrow rocky farm roads on the Owners Club Orange 360 ride were comfortable and easy to ride, and climbing (and descending) loose steep gravel roads and descents were heaps of fun.

The Muga is top choice if you plan to explore or go touring and want an ebike that will handle whatever you throw at.

    #3. Kalkhoff Entice L Season – Lightweight Durable All-Terrain E-Bike

Kalkhoff Entice L Season – Lightweight Durable All-Terrain E-Bike | Electric Bikes Brisbane

The Kalkhoff Entice L Season is a proven favourite this season for caravanners and touring riders wanting a reliable, lightweight ebike suitable for gravel, rail trails, and around-town riding.

It is also proving a great option for those who have been riding a heavier electric bike and want something lighter, that still has the capability to easily do eg. the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and then a long Brisbane to Bondall Wetlands along bike paths.

The Kalkhoff Entice L Season is a terrific price, plus it is durable and easy-to-service and a delightful ebike to ride.

Available in step-through and gents frames and multiple frame sizes, so lots of options to have the correct size and style.

#4. Focus Thron2 eMTB Range – Comfortable, Stable and Versatile eMTB

The Focus Thron2 eMTB range is excellent value and a terrific option for riders who want comfort, confidence, and versatility both on and off-road. It has had a huge makeover for 2026 and a complete new design which has made it versatile as a touring bike, an explorer and also a fun mountain bike. It is very stable, very comfortable and a great handler on tight, looser trails.

The new 150mm dual suspension platform is particularly popular with riders looking for a mountain bike that be a comfortable touring ebike one day for rides like the Crows Nest gravel loops, and then you can have some fun on the green and blue trails in places like Gap Creek Mountain Bike Park the next.

If you are new to mountain biking and want extra confidence, it is hard to go past the Focus Thron2 6.8 model equipped with ABS brakes for that extra control and safety.

#5. Amflow PX Carbon eMTB Range – Lightweight, Top Tech with Massive Power

The 2026 Amflows PX Carbon e-mountain bikes have made a huge splash this season. This is in part to the Avinox M2S motor and all the upgrades in terms of connectivity and power, and also because they are outstanding value for such a highly specced carbon eMTB.

Renowned already for its monster climbing ability, Amflow have also made significant changes to the bike platform itself. The result is an eMTB that is more suitable for descending as well as climbing, making it much more of an all rounder. You will fly up the big climbs at Ironbark and Gap Creek and have just as much coming down trails like Rocket Frog and Dingo than on its predecessor.

The great thing about it is that it offers a huge amount of fine tuning for the discerning rider so you can mix up your riding - Old Hidden Vale black runs one day, Mt Cotton the next, Gap Creek after. You choose.

The Amflow PX Carbon come in two models this season, depending on what spec level you want.

Highly Recommended: More Special E-Bikes to Consider

Our Top 5 picks above got the gong in terms of most number of votes, however there are several additional ebikes that are highly recommended by our team and deserve recognition.

There are a couple of surprises in there.... but when we looked at who picked them it lines up to their style of riding. How awesome it is to have a team of people who love such diverse styles of riding (and its great when it comes to test riding and reviewing our new ebikes.)

These are the ebikes that come highly recommended.

Rail Trail, Gravel, Leisure and Touring Electric Bikes

Kalkhoff Entice 3 Excite Belt E-Bike

Kalkhoff Entice 3 Excite Belt E-Bike | Electric Bikes Brisbane

This new Entice 3 model from Kalkhoff is one of the best value belt-drive ebikes available. It is equipped with the strong Bosch Gen 5 CX motor so has plenty of power and having the low-maintenance belt drive with Nexus 5-speed gearing really suits riders who want to keep things simple - in terms of rideability and maintenance.

It is an all-terrain model and is proving a great option for our regional customers who have a network gravel back roads and rougher roads to ride on. Plus it is equipped with some excellent comfort features and all the extra accessories for touring and commuting are included.

    Kalkhoff Entice 7+ Wave E-Bike

Kalkhoff Entice 7+ Wave E-Bike | Electric Bikes Brisbane

The Kalkhoff Entice 7+ is a brand new dual suspension model from Kalkhoff. It is unusual in that it is a deep stepthrough frame and with the extra suspension it offers exceptional comfort, stability, and versatility.

We were surprised when we first rode it how beautifully balanced and stable it is to ride. It is one of the reasons that it has made this list, and also its 170kg rating.

It is an excellent as a back country explorer and equally as good as an everyday commuter. Available in a 600Wh and a long-range 800Wh ABS-equipped versions.

    Focus Aventura² 6.8 Electric Bike

Focus Aventura² 6.8 Electric Bike in a Trail | Electric Bikes Brisbane

We were very excited to see how Focus updated the Aventura2. This is the ebike that set the benchmark for long distance touring - the bike that 83y.o Bob Fletcher rode when he rode his lap of Australia and that has scored a gong two years running as the Choice Magazine top pick. When the new 2026 version was released we were delighted that Focus have addressed the finer points that customers were wanting.

This new model is an excellent update! It is now powered by the Bosch Gen 5 CX motor, has an even-bigger 800Wh battery, and Focus have made changes which improves its comfort and useability eg it comes with adjustable handlebars, has a dropper seatpost, and MIK HD rear rack. With its 150kg rating it is an ebike that goes the distance, carrying heavier loads.

One of the most exciting changes is that it is also available in a step-through Wave frame this season, making it a first class electric bike that is even more accessible.

    Orbea Denna Gravel E-Bike

Orbea Denna Gravel E-Bike | Electric Bikes Brisbane

With the Orbea Denna range we love how Orbea combine ultra light with high power. The Denna is an amazing ebike to ride, especially if you come from a road or gravel background and you want to that fast, sporty handling. On eof our team is an Australian-level road rider and he was amazed that you couldn't feel the extra weight of the ebike system when he was climbing - and how fast he could ride on the flats with it.

It is designed for experienced riders who want to keep doing the long-distance rides, and who want the extra endurance that the ebike motor provides.

The other thing we love at Electric Bikes Brisbane is the huge amount of choice that Orbea offers with this range. It is highly customisable - down to paint choice, gearing choice, crank length, even the decals on your bike!

    Cargo Electric Bikes

    Riese & Muller Multicharger3

Riese & Muller Multicharger 3 Ebike | Electric Bikes Brisbane

The Riese & Müller Multicharger3 got the gong for its great looks and just how versatile it is for a longtail cargo eBike. The Multicharger cargo range from Riese & Muller is a riders range - they feel great to ride and even when loaded up it has the ride quality that makes it so much more than a cargo ebike. I guess that's why it's called an SUV ebike too.

It is designed to carry up to two children, a passenger, or heavy gear with ease and has a choice of different accessory kits, depending on planned usage and age of your children.

The Multicharger3 series is an update on a prior generation and now comes with the Bosch Gen 5 CX motor. For anyone who is concerned about carrying the extra weight of children around steep, hilly Brisbane then there is no concern. With up to 120Nm torque now on tap you really can climb just about anything. Mt Coot-tha here you come!

Available in crossbar and mixte frame styles, and with a range of gearing options you can choose from, it is also an ebike that you can personalise just the way you want it.

    E-Mountain Bikes

    Focus Sam2 6.0 E-MTB

    Focus Sam2 6.0 E-MTB | Electric Bikes Brisbane

It is no surprise the new Focus Sam2 made this list, and also no surprise it was the flagship Focus Sam2 6.0. With the redesigned 2026 platform this is an eMTB that squarely targets downhill enthusiasts and more aggressive riders. 170mm travel. Mullet set up and a new suspension linkage system that loves gnarly descents and big features.

You will see a few Focus Sam2 eMTBs competing in the QLD State Downhill Championships (and doing well too!)

The Focus Sam2 6.0 made this list because it is a fantastic spec for the money. In reality, every eMTB in the range is but the electronic gearing and gorgeous paint job nudged it ahead.

    Focus Jam2 6.9 E-MTB

    Focus Jam2 6.9 E-MTB in a mountain trail | Electric Bikes Brisbane

It is also no surprise that the focus Jam2 6.9 made the list too. Sam has been raving about how much faster she is down Kombi at Ironbark, despite just getting back into mountain biking again after a back injury. 30 seconds off her PB on the second run (and improving each time since)!!

The Focus Jam2 range also had a major overhaul for 2026. A shorter length and deep, central ride position makes it a fast, playful and composed all-rounder eMTB and the Jam2 6.9 model has an excellent combination of Fox and Shimano components.

The Jam2 has proved equally capable on tight technical trails, tecchy climbs as well as the downhill runs. Plus it has proven to be comfortable for long leisure rides exploring the more mellow trails in and between Samford Valley and Bunya State Forest. So, a genuine all-rounder mountain bike and one that gives a beginner confidence to keep going to get better and an experienced ride like Sam a thrill and reminder of why she loves mountain biking.
